    Default Basement Finishing

Does anyone know if the resale value of a house goes up or down if you use a basement finishing system instead of the normal framing and drywall finishing?

    Thanks in advance!

What is a "basement finishing system", I thought that a finished basement always implied drywall and pretty much all the consmetics from a regular living space.

Gregory - They do make a finishing system with some sort of "snap in walls" for quick and easy finishing of basements.

Bransworld - I suppose it really depends on what is normal in the rest of the neighborhood. I don't think it would detract from the value of the house unless it was a high end home or all the other homes were finished with drywall.

Not only are they quicker and easier they are mold and mildew resistant. Which is a plus in my opinion.

This system is better than nothing but I would prefere drywall. I think this is like comparing laminated floors to hardwood floors. Both look good but hardwood adds more value to your home.

I have seen those snap together floors options but never on a wall sounds interesting. I agree if you want a finished basement you probably want dry wall but this sounds good for a workshop application.

This is definitely a great question! I am just now finishing my basement, and can tell you that I am doing the framing and drywall. I have heard that there really isn't a difference with regard to increasing a home's value, but personally, I like framing things out and doing it the old fashioned way.

    Default Basements

So I take it your from the North I moved to Florida the land of whats a basement. Until the last 5 years most of the homes were single story here now I see some two level houses. I haven't seen a house with a basement since I got here 20 years ago. I grew up in NJ in big old house with basement and attic. Miss those old houses and there spaces.

I think most people look for that traditional finished basement with sheetrock and carpeted a more permanent look to flow with the rest of the house. But interesting I never heard of it.

I haven't come across this yet but I agree with the others that it is better than nothing but not as good the traditional way with carpet or nice hardwood floors
