Default Apartment rental - Submit security deposit before seeing the lease?

My real estate agent wouldn't show me the lease until I signed an application stating that I agreed with the terms of the lease, so I crossed out that section of the application. Now the agent wants me to submit my security deposit before showing me the lease. Is this a scam?

I don't know if it is a scam but never ever agree to something you have not read.

It sounds like you need to find another agent.

You might also consider reporting this agent to the state licensing authority.
