Should I buy a 1950s Modernist House?
My wife and I have been looking hard for our permanent home for the
past 2 years if not more. The biggest obstacle recently went away:
selling my bachelor house. We close on it the end of this month. In
2 years of searching, we have found maybe 4 houses that we loved.
Each was older and unique. We came across this large, 1950s Modernist
house, and to be honest, when I first saw it, and looked inside the
windows, I was both amazed and concerned. I knew nothing about the
movement, but have read tons since. These houses are only loved by
few it seems and typically do not sell well. Also, there are
foundations online trying to preserve them: they are simply going
away. I've learned about such names as Frank Lloyd Wright, etc. I am
now a novice modernist student if I can humbly admit.
The house needs some work, but has had some updating. It is in a
great part of town with a 1 acre lot, and we can afford it. Due to
the bad market and its odd form, it is priced incredibly low. We
might make an offer this week. I simply want opinions. Are we about
to buy something that we will never be able to resell? We want to
spend the rest of our lives in the house we get, and if we buy this,
that needs to be it, but I especially want options if/when they ever
occur.
Please give me your sage advice
I have pictures, but the forum rules will not let me add them since this is my 1st post.

if you and your wife love it and this is the house you want to grow old in then don't worry about the resell factor. You are buying a home, not an investment.

If you really like the house then I don't see any problem at all. I think it's a good choice as well!!
