Default Best carpet for selling house?

    Hello-
We are about to put our house on the market and will be replacing our worn-out berber carpet. We're confused about what type of carpet to get- our realtor advised us to get berber, but every carpet salesperson we have spoken to has advised against berber and steered us towards regular cut-pile carpet, and said that many more people want and like the regular carpet. Ultimately, we're deciding between two carpets: the berber winds up being about $400 cheaper than the pile carpet, but the pile is Stainmaster and has a 15 year warranty.

What do buyers like most? We'd like the house to look great, but don't want to go overboard with spending too much. Is it worth the extra $400 for Stainmaster pile carpeting with a 15 year warranty?

    Thank you,
    Lindsey

Cut pile carpet never looks fresh. This is why we put berber in the house we are remodeling to flip. The new shag carpet, frieze, is the same as the old shag carpet with all the same old problems, and people recognize that.

With you living in the house I would go with the berber.

Default Carpet in homes for sale

I am a big believer in doing everything a seller can to make the home shine. Certainly you do not want to go overboard in price. For this reason, it is important to look at the approximate price range of this MLS listing. Is it more of a starter home where the buyer would not expect top of the line, or is it a higher end home for sale?

When in doubt, it is great to make the home shine (new paint and carpet) and I'm sure the new buyer will appreciate the new carpet regardless of style or cost.

    I hope this helps!

    Default Former Homebuilder

When the builders I worked for had to select flooring for a spec they always chose a low shag neutral color to appeal to the widest range of buyers.
