Default How do you reclassify your home?

    or should you?

I bought my house 2.5 years ago, it was advertised as a 3/2 with an inlaw suite. The reality of it is it's a 4/3. The house is completely original and has never had any additions added to it.

Everywhere I search its listed as a 3/2, property appraisers office, zillow.... I have no intentions of selling anytime soon but was curious as to what might happen if I were to try and get it classified as a 4/3. Would the home's value increase? What about the property taxes? It is homesteaded.

Is it beneficial or should I just let it remain the same?

Zillow is absolutely useless and means nothing. The tax assessors office is routinely wrong. If you try to get the tax assessor to change it to a 4/3 you might be kicking a hornets nest.

What does the building permit say? If the permit is for a 3/2 and you bring it to the local authorities attention they might make you remedy the situation.
