Default Leave original details in a 1939 gingerbread?

    Hello,

I currently own a 2bed/1bath gingerbread house. All details are original in terms of windows, door knobs, floor, trim, etc. I love the fact, but the problem is that the houses are very close and the dark trim darkens the room. Also, the trim is beginning to look pretty beat up, paint has been slopped on from painting, etc. Also curious about painting the doors.

Would it be of bad practice to paint the trim? I see several houses in the neighborhood have done so, but I hate to lower the value and/or commit a no-no in terms of its originality. I plan on doing several fixes, and was curious if this should be one. It is my first house and plan on selling relatively soon, so re-sale is important.

House is not in a registered historic area, and current value is only around $90k, so I wouldn't be changing anything worthwhile.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

PS... I would attach pictures but apparently I cannot with less than 15 posts...

I don't see any problem leaving it in it's original details for now and besides you like to maintain it's originality. But I think you cannot stop the new owner or buyer if he/she prefers to make changes.
