In Michigan you need to be a real estate salesperson for three years before you can become a real estate broker. The Broker's license requires some additional training and an exam.

Default Additional Real Estate Broker Information

A real estate broker can own, run and manage a real estate company which employs real estate sales people. Look at it this way, the real estate broker is the BOSS. Most states will require that you be a real estate salesperson for a number of years before you can apply to become a real estate broker.

A Real Estate Broker is generally the highest level of licensing offered by the State. They are allowed to open firms, hire Agents under them, etc. The Broker charges their Agents out the whazoo for the privilege of working under them and collects a llarge chunk of the commission the seller pays.

A Real Estate Agent is the person in the trenches that generally does all of the work so the Broker can make their living. The Agent is the one you are handed to for managing your needs and desires. The Agent is the one that is also crucified when something goes wrong in the transaction regardless of who did the wrong. The Agent is considered expendable and part of their purpose is as the sacrificial lamb to keep the brokerage alive.

It varies from state to state and country to country, but basically a real estate broker manages a group of real estate agents and usually share the commission with them. Hope this helps.

Default real estate agent vs real estate broker

a real estate Broker is one who employs, often times via independent contract, a real estate agent/salesperson. The Broker is the company, the owner of all transactions paying each employed agent/salesperson an agreed upon commission for listing or selling transactions for the Broker.
