Question And now for the big step.....

Hello, my name is Quinton Jones. I am new to this forum and look forward to any advice anyone can give me. But first, i suppose an introduction of sorts is in order. I am 22, and recently finished a 4 year tour in the U.S. Army. I now reside in the D.C. Metropolitan area and have decide to follow what i think is my dream career as a real estate agent. However, I seem to have come to a bit of a crux in the road as I also have become an expectant father. My question however revolves around the next big step in the quest to earn my real estate licence: The national and state test. I concider myself very confidant in my abilities regardless of the circumstances, however i can seem to think that i may not be ready to take the test. I ask you all now, how did you study and how long did it take? does anyone have any ideas or websites that could help me? thanks in advance for all your help.

    Default Next steps..

Thanks for your service to our country!

I have a friend who just did the same. He searched Google and found several exams and practice tests and books to help him.. have you considered that route?

    Default Hi

The test is the least of your worries. If you went to a reputable school for your licensing and read their books, you should be ok.

Huh? Aren't you required to take a pre-exam class?

Sorry, forgot: Thank you for your service to our country!

    Default Testing

Regardless of how or where you've received your training material, you should have received practice exams for both the national and state portions of the exam. Each should be about 1200+ questions.

Make copies and then take the practice tests and score them. If you get below 90% go back and do it again. Practice these tests until you get at least a 90%.

Some of the things you will here people saying about these tests ( I suppose to make themselves feel better about failing) is that (1) this is the hardest test I've ever taken (it is) and (2) No one ever passes on the first try (baloney) Take the practice tests, believe it or not that is what they are for, and believe it or not if you can get 90% on your practice tests you should be able to pass the exams on the first attempt, and at $90 a pop (Arizona) you don't want to be repeating.

There are many word problems in the test that have deceptive and misleading wording. READ THE QUESTIONS THOROUGHLY?

If you don't know percentages and decimals learn them quick. Make certain you understand the difference between a number expressed as a percentage vs the same number expressed as a decimal ( six and one half percent or 6.5% = .065)

If you have taken your state authorized training course and you come a cross a possible answer on the test that you haven't heard of, (assuming you didn't sleep through the course), it is probably not a valid answer.

Yes they will have bogus answers that are close enough to a real answer that you will be second guessing yourself. Once again that is why you take the practice tests, over and over...

stick to a game plan - don't fall victim to all the hype over topics such as "land trusts", "asset protection" and other things, WITHOUT LEARNING THE BASICS FIRST.

use your local library - for a buck fifty in late fees, you can get an awesome education on ANY topic, not just real estate.
