Hurricane Shutters While Showing House
Hello, I am a soon-to-be home seller. I live in Florida and I want to list my house with a realtor but I will be going away for 6 weeks during hurricane season and want to install my hurricane shutters before I go, especially since they're calling for a very active storm season. I have mostly clear lucite shutters and I want to put them up (I will only put up the lucite shutters) while the house is being shown in my absence but one realtor that I interviewed says she doesn't want the shutters up. I can't take the chance, even if I hire someone, that they'll go up in my absence if there were to be a storm. What do you suggest? Would you take a listing for a house that would have clear lucite shutters on for 6 weeks? Otherwise, the home has perfect curb appeal, fairly new, professionally landscaped, and very fresh looking. Thank you.

Elle,
My folks live in FLA. Your house, hurricane season, you'll be out...Get the shutters installed.
Anyone moving to FLA knows they'll see those shutters up and at the ready when they drive thru ANY town in FLA during the hurricane season. They're NOT going to "take away" from the home when it's shown. No, they're not.
Good luck and batten down the hatches.

Is this listing agent willing to take on the responsibility of making sure the shutters get installed in the event of a storm? In writing?
The installed shutters might actually be a positive. I have tried to explain how these types of shutters (un-installed) work to potential buyers who look at me with the glazed look of incomprehension.Your Outer Banks real estate agent. Learn how to buy Outer Banks foreclosures.

In this area it's important to have shutters all the time. So install them and your house will look for attractive to the potential buyers.

I agree with all that came before me. I personally dont have to deal with hurricanes and such where I am, but if it is relevant to where you live then put them on. Buyers looking to purchase there will know why they are there
