Default Real Estate as a career

I'm looking for a career change and wanted seasoned realtors opinions on starting a career now in real estate. I know the market isn't great right now but have heard it's a good time to learn since it's slower. Do you enjoy this career and would you recommend it to others?

    Thanks for your help.

I say go for it. The market will only get better from here and you will come in at the bottom. I think with all the changes, you will be in a good position to learn now and be ready when the market turns good down the road. Go for it.

    Cool

Hey Barb, I have been in the business for just under a year now and have seen some great success.

Now is a great time to begin your career as you will need to learn some strong marketing techniques. You will have to put in some effort to finding what works best in your area to bring in the clients. I was lucky to join a company where the Top Producers were willing to share their techniques, and how they have made it through the downturn.

Its absolutely an amazing career choice, but the first year will be the most difficult so don't give up if things don't come right away.

And my best advice is, don't just choose any Broker, interview them and join one that is willing to teach you. You may take a smaller commission at first, but it will be well worth it later on.

    Default Go for it!

There is not a better career in my personal opinion! Be sure you have some reserves and find a Broker who will support you.

As a team leader, I find the newest agents are the most motivated, while the agents who have been around awhile want to do things the same way they have always been done.

    Good Luck!

This career is rather hard and requires alot of your energy and strengths. Besides you need to have rather good background for the career. Of course it can be rewarding when you earn some money, but this is hard money.

Real estate is a great career and I enjoy it, but it is not for everyone. It is a very difficult market and it can be very discouraging. Also it can take awhile before you get that first pay check and not everyone is a position where they can afford that.

All I can tell you is that it is really tough if you don't know where your leads will be coming from. Have a plan or an in to a particular market through some kind of connection. Either that or join a company that will provide you leads either through paid leads or good traffic on floor time. Don't go into it without any clue as to where your sales will come from.
