Default We think our realtor has dementia, please help

    Hello,

Thanks in advance for any responses. I was delighted to find this forum because my wife and I have a very delicate situation unfolding with our buying agent.

Through the course of our first offer on a house we've discovered a number of missteps and omissions by our realtor. I don't want to get into details here to protect privacy but we are worried that our agent may have dementia. I don't say that lightly because I've worked with seniors with dementia and have observed similar behaviors in our realtor.

At this point we feel empathy for our agent if there really is dementia but we're also in the middle of a negotiation to buy a house.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I was thinking about speaking with one of the colleagues in the office. Not even sure what I'd say but definitely want to make sure that the agent has our best interests at heart. We're also in a state (Pennsylvania) that does not use lawyers to double-check contracts so once we sign, even if a dumb mistake is in there, were committed.

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

    Thanks, PhillyRN

Take all of your substantiating paperwork to your agent's broker in charge and show them your concerns. They should take over or assign another agent to you.

Contract work is serious business and you are correct when you say you will be stuck with the consequences of their mistake.

Just curious, did you interview agents when you started?

I worry about the effect on our agent if this is the first time that the issue of competency has come up. I understand what you're saying, I just wonder how our agent will deal with it if they are replaced outright.

We chose our agent based on a recommendation without an interview and just started looking at houses. During that process we started noticing that something wasn't quite right but it wasn't obvious until we were dealing with contracts.

    Thanks for responding.
