    Default Question about referrals

    Hey all,

I am in the process of moving within the metro area where I live.

I had a family member refer me to our current agent who has done a good job with the sale of our current house.

Now that we have a contract on our current, she is of course interested in being our agent for that process as well. Is it normal or automatic for my relative to get a referral fee off the new house as well and is it approppriate/tacky to ask the agent to agree to that as well. I don't seem to have a problem being tacky, but I try not to when I can help it. However, relative could use the money and I am trying to help out.

Our other concern is that I am not sure our current agent is super familiar with the new area, but that is material for another thread I suppose.

    Thanks!

There's no referral fee you're responsible for. Any fees involved are between agents themselves.

I guess I was just asking if it is common if my agent does both the sale and the new purchase to pay a referral fee or to just pay a fee on the sale.

I know I am not responsible. I was going to ask just to expedite things if nothing else.

Well, common? I guess if any seller is happy with their agent, yeah, it would be common for them to both market and sell your current dwelling and locate you a place to move to that suits your needs. But how many people do both? How many sellers are happy with their current agent? That's the question I think. Fees? I know that if I'm a buying agent and refer my client to one of our other offices, I'd expect a referral fee from the agent I'm passing business to. A client can't really expedite this.

I thing you should no bother about this as the agent is there to handle that situation and if he denies to do then you can have the legal action against him.

    thanks
