Default What do you when a realtor lies or misrepresents a sale or rental?

I have a situation where I flew out of my state to look at homes because I am planning to relocate. A place in a community that I loved fell through and I had asked the realtor to check on other propertie in that community. She never gave me any feedback on any of the properties I was interested in. I sent her MLS listings to which no response. It has been 2 months and I have only gotten 2 emails from her. Which she keeps saying she hasn't heard from the realtor of one property I am interested in. I sent her other listings I was interested in and she never gave me any feedback. I have given her listings not the other way arond. After not hearing from her for 2 wks I contacted another realtor to see what was really going on with the property because I had been given a story the homeowner was ill and in the hospital and that the realtor of the homeowner would get back to the realtor I thought was helping me find a property to rent or buy. There is no signed contract at this time between us so what am or was I to do? So I get a call from another realtor who was able to reach the realtor of the homeowner. She said that he never mentioned anything about homeowner being ill and in the hospital and that they only had one rental offer of $1200 which he said the homeowner turned down. This was news to my ears because I have been getting the runaround telling me she hasn't heard back from the realtor. So yesterday I emailed the realtor who was suppose to be helping me find a home and asked her what was going on since I hadn't heard from her and if she heard anything back from the realtor? She emailed me back saying she sent me a email saying that she hadn't head anything back from the realtor in 2 wks and that the reason I hadn't heard from her was because she was out of town for two weeks taking care of a sick aunt. Why can't this realtor just be honest because the other realtor got the information about the homowner's situation which said nothing about being sick within a hour. Why lie and continue to dig deeper in lies? I have never heard of a realtor coming up with this kind of a story in my life!

    What to do?

I think the agreement between you two might be your help. It is wiser to know the possible problem regarding the sales.

Yvette, it's obviously time to end your association with this 'realtor' and get the services of a qualified realtor. Agents who use forums such as this normally tend to be considerably more professional and up to date on the industry, perhaps if you asked for a referral or recommendation, there may be members here who could help you. Either way, if you feel this person was dishonest, I would suggest contacting her broker and letting him/her know of the agent's actions. Good luck.

It sounds as if you were dealing with an agent that did not have your best interests as their priority. I have to agree with maui about finding a qualified REALTOR. And then ask the REALTOR to become your buyers agent.

But I am not sure about one thing: are you looking to buy or rent?

There is no signed contract. Email this agent and tell her that you are no longer interested in her services, you don't even have to give her a reason I'm sure she can figure out why.
Get on your computer and find another Realtor who will take care of your needs. It should not be too difficult to find a good one. Proactive agents usually have a great web presence, have a blog, and have testaments from satisfied clients.
Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

Why are you wasting your time with this person? Contact a number of agents and then work with the one who impresses you with their work the most.

I am pretty agressive at this point... I'd sue him...

In any case as soon as you realize that your agent is lieing or cheating you or misinterprets you should quit your agent and find another one as the former one is not going to bring you anything good.
