Default title insurance: is that all I need when buying in the US?

    Hi,

I' m from Europe and want to invest in the US. Things are different in your country, I' m still learning.

As far as I understand, title insurance is all I need to make sure I don' t get scammed (existing liens etc).

I select a property I like, buy title insurance, and if title insurer says it is ok, I can buy.

Is that right? Or are there other steps to take when buying property? Other verifications to make. Like getting a lawyer to check for other things or whatever?

    Thanks for your help!

The title company will do all the paperwork, exactly the same way as the "notaire" in Belgium. No need to be scared...
The insurance will most likely be mandatory by the lender if any. It covers in case of problems of any kind...
