    lookin for trouble?

No one has to give you a license number "by law" when you contact a licensed agent. You can visit your state's real estate commission web site where you can do a search by name which will give you the license number of that agent. Proper protocol would be for you to talk to that agent first, then his broker.

If anyone asks me for my license number (not related to any ad and not a commission member) then that's a huge red flag for me. I'd quickly send you to a competitor. I'd even give you his legal cell phone number.

I'm involved in a short sale and the selling agent is also the broker. I received a letter stating that I was in escrow and received copies of the banks release agreements. I scheduled an inspection of the home and no one was home when we showed up and my agent/broker could not get ahold of the selling agent. 30 minutes later my agent gets text message (from the selling agent) saying that the owner did not accept my offer (the banks listing price) and they sold it to someone else. We'll I've looked for the selling agent/brokers DRE license and his name does not show any results. With a license being issued by the State, I would think that if I were to ask for the license # he would have to give it. Unless there is something stinky going on.

This depend upon which area you are belongs to. Because rules & regulations are vary from area to area & region wise too. I suggest you to find some Govt dept: in this regards that may give you require information. Good Luck
