    hi agupt49,

what state are you from? i don't know all the different nuances of rules between state to state, but in WA you definitely need a broker to sponsor you before you're allowed to get an active license.

With that said, there should be at least a few discount brokers in your area that don't require such a large entry fee.

The real question I foresee is what would you do with an agent's license without a broker? You would not be able to perform any transactions.

There is no such thing as a successful part time real estate salesperson.

wow, in Florida we don't have to choose a broker to hang our license with until we have the license!

You're asking the broker to pay you $1000? Wow, that's different! If you find that, let me know!

As a new agent, the broker you sign on with will require that you buy Errors & Omissions insurance, join the local MLS and possibly the state & National Association of Realtors. Expect to come out of YOUR pocket with $1,000 to $2,000....

And then, the broker will take a percentage of all the commissions you earn. Anywhere from 5% to 50%.

I hope I'm not bursting your balloon. But there are real costs in becoming a Realtor. It helps to go into it with your eyes open.
