Plumbing Question
Anyone know how long the plumbing should last in a fifty year old home? And what is a sewage cap?
Also I don't know anything about radon gas and where it originates... I read where the house has to be inspected for this as well as lead paint, and asbestos whatever that is. Thanks for your help.

It depends on the type of pipes. Steel water pipes don't last while copper lasts forever.

Sorry, I know this isn't much of a realtor question but, aren't copper pipes more liable to burst or spring a leak in the soddered joints than steel pipes (pressure leaks or something)?

Any home built prior to 1978 probably has some lead based paint. Typically it has been painted over enough to be harmless. If the sellers have knowledge of any problems related to lead based paint they are required by law to disclose. If it is peeling, call an expert.

Plumbing Question
If the copper pipe is installed right you won't have a problem. If you have a lot of minerals in the water steel pipe could clog up. You better hope you don't have lead paint problems because you have to have it removed with licensed removers. Very expensive. Asbestos can be in the popcorn ceiling, some floor tile and usually around the heating pipes.
Sounds like they are putting your through the ringer.
Good luck,
