    catey03-

People get way too stressed and hung up about PR. What you should be focusing on is ranking on in SERPs. A higher PR does not directly equate to ranking high in SERPs. I would much rather rank high for a competitive keyword than have a high PR. Backlinks from trusted, authoritative, and relevant websites with appropriate anchor text is what you want. Such sites tend to have higher PR. There are several factors that go into how many backlinks you need to obtain a certain PR. It is believed and demonstrated that it follows a logarithmic function.

To answer your question, yes backlinks are the principal factor on obtaining high PR. As long as the backlins are followed by Google, then a couple of other factors influence the amount of link juice (i.e. PR) passed to you. The number of external links out and the PR of the page.

For example, to obtain a PR3 you would need 450 links from PR1 sites , or 80 links from PR2 sites, or 6 links from PR3 sites. This also assumes that all these sites have an average of 40 external links (this means links to other sites than your own).

Yes! The more sites pointing to your site the higher possibility of getting page rank, also "AGE" of the website is one of the most important thing you have to consider.

Continue link building, and avoid duplicated contents. Coz duplicate contents can decrease your PR.

One of the important factors that helps your site get high PR value is the number of back links that you are getting. But its not just back links - its the quality of back links. Google gives more value on the quality compared to those irrelevant sites that you are getting.

Backlinking is really important when you are so concern about increasing your PR. But not just any backlink, you have to take into account the "neighborhood" where your links are coming from because if it comes from a bad neighborhood then instead of increasing your PR, you might be decreasing it.
