Discount for prepayment of property taxes?

I once heard that a discount on property taxes may be awarded for early payment of the taxes. Assuming that the tax year starts on Jan. 1st, are there any incentives to paying the property taxes immediately, rather than waiting until they are due? Also, i am only talking about residential property.

Every town and county that collects property taxed has their own way of doing things. The only way for you to find out how it works with your property taxes is to talk to the people who collect them and see if there is a discount available.

If you had a completely reliable source and you know who to talk to I would go for it otherwise, I haven't heard of such a thing to often.

Any discounts that are available for paying your property taxes early are going to vary from state to state. Some states in order to encourage the early payment of property taxes offer discounts; one of the largest state’s that is offering discounts for early payment is New York. Consult with you specific state tax agency to see if your state is offering a discount for early payment.
