Hi All,

Just been reviewing some of the stats from the survey of agents we have been doing and thought you may be interested in the following stats.

This question was titled "What type of marketing do you do to get more prospects?" and could answer multiple questions:

Internet marketing = 51.7%
Sales Letters = 34.5%
Letter box mailers = 20.7%
Referral programs = 20.7%
Newspaper advertisements = 20.7%
Door Knocking = 13.8%
Social Network Sites = 13.8%
Cold Calling = 10.3%
Blogs = 6.9%
Nothing = 10.3%

I was surprised by some elemets here. How about you? Is this what would be considered a commonality in your area?

Would love your thoughts.

Also test yourself against agents by completing the 2 minute survey at http://tinyurl.com/6en8qv

I think what is most shocking to me is the 10% who do nothing and that only 51% use internet marketing. Buyers and sellers are on the internet and agents mush get out there or they will very soon be left behind.

Yeah Mike I so agree.

I can only assume that the 10% of agents who are doing nothing are the big $ earners who have no longer the need to promote themselves or they are in the wrong industry and just do not it yet!

Thanks for the feedback.

With more people moving to a digital, communication driven experience the internet is becoming one of the most effective routes, but finding someone that knows what they are doing with your Internet Marketing Plan might be a challenge in itself. Direct Marketing and mailers are one of the better ways to reach a broad, local audience.

I think the big movers in coming years are going to be the blogs and social media sites. They should see strong gains in the coming years IMO.

What's striking (but not surprising) to me about those figures is that the most passive forms of marketing seem to be the most popular. That does NOT mean they're the most effective.

The absolute BEST way to market yourself is to get out and talk to real people. Shake hands. Talk about their needs. Make sure they remember you personally. And yet that is what most real estate agents FEAR most. It's much less scary to send out 100 mailers than it is to stop and chat with 5 or 10 strangers.

That's not to say that Internet marketing, bulk mailing, and other farming techniques aren't effective... they are. But if you want Bang for Your Buck, calling and knocking are the cheapest and most effective marketing tool. And I'm not necessarily talking about cold calling. Even 'warm' calling seems anathema to many agents.

How many times have you seen open house sign-in sheets tossed in the trash can because the agent doesn't want to 'bother' the folks who stopped by??
