Green Buildings

I have a friend selling a straw bail home in Capitola, CA. The house is completely self sustainable via solar panels and solar voltaic systems. The walls are insulated with straw bail, the irrigation comes from a water tank in the backyard that is filled up from the rainwater via the gutters. This house is absurd in every environmental way.

Anyhoo, it sold above asking price in a bidding war. Why aren't we building these houses? The cost the build was barely above the alternative.

I think we need to look more at these types of solutions. Not only is it great for our environment, but it also will offer consumers other choices over the long term. Here in Minnesota, we have seen occasional projects here and there where a "green house" has popped up, but they still are not real common. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

I am very interested in green building, sustainable living, and small home impact. I really like the whole idea of building some specs here in Austin, but am a little hesitant to invest in that because the market is so flooded and I wonder about the general public's interest in green building. I would buy it in a second.

i guess that's a classic way to build houses..however we are in the modern world..so we use lots of things to make our house beautiful..

Why aren't more builders going green? A long term cost analysis reveals it to be worthwhile

Solar houses will be the future. Some states are talking about making solar panels a requirement. I am not sure about bale house though.
