Be active, search the forum, ask questions.
Participate. Other members may find that you have information they were looking for and vice versa.

Forums are a great means of comunicating to differnet people from around the world. I have gotten a lot of ideas from different forums.

Joining a forum does give you several advantages. One is for technical and legal issues. Any forum member can give you their opinion on that issue and will somehow give you the best solution. So far, I have been very impressed with forums that I've joined.

You can also see some advantages for yourself depending on what your intentions are when join a forum.
