There won't be any question of Quality of DMOZ.
But the thing is it won't accept submissions currently.
No one knows why?
Still i am feeling lucky, one of my website has 2 listings in DMOZ.
People can not get only one listing but i got 2 listings for a single website.

How does one get listed on the DMOZ if they were accepting submissions?

All you will need to do is go to DMOZ and make sure that you submit your site into the correct category.

Also, make sure you follow the guidelines to make it easier to do. that can be found on the dmoz site. It wont let me add a link to this post because I have fewer than 15 posts but its.

dmoz (dot) org / add.html

Just know it could take 3 months or longer to get submitted. The Rule of Thumb with me being an SEO is "Submit and Forget" Don't preoccupy yourself with checking it all the time. Just check every three months.

The reason it takes so long is because Human editors review your site and it makes it a lot easier to review if you follow the guidelines.

Hope this helps.:D

Thanks for all of the information. I submitted my site today, now it's time to cross my fingers.

I've gotten links into DMOZ recently ... I think it just depends on what categories your applying to and if they have editors that are active for it.

I don't think the real estate sections are as well patrolled as others are, possibly too much link spamming.

It's the MECA of all links though... if you can get in, you're golden.

I have given up on hope on dmoz. I have tried for years to get websites listed in there with no luck, even very professional client sites that never got accepted. It is good to be included in their directory, but its not a big deal if you aren't. You can always get links in other places.

Do you mean link spamming to DMOZ or do you mean spam links on DMOZ? Because if you mean spam on DMOZ you are way off.

I would say that DMOZ is the best free directory that you can get. It has tons of power. My anchor text when I type my name in google changes.

I have gotten web sites on DMOZ but the wait times are long and directories have since become less sought after.

dmoz is one of the most crooked websites on the internet. i personally know several friends who do SEO work who have dmoz editor accounts and add their own sites whenever. its respect has been declining for quite a while and it won't be going back up any time soon.

I do not know of any web master personally who got his or her site listed with DMOZ in the last 6 months. Very difficult to get listed in their directory.

DMOZ is great! However you are correct, it is genuinely difficult to get listed. It takes months to even find out anything. They are very selective, but if you get in, it is worth it.

I think dmoz is one of the largest human directories online.

DMOZ is a great directory but do not limit yourself to submiting to just 1 directory there are several free and paid directories that work well for advertising and quality links. Digg.com, activerain.com and craigslist.com come to mind.

Another great networking site is linkedin.com they have several realestate groups you can join and network within.

I have heard the same thing. If you submit a site that competes with one of the editor's sites they won't add it.

It's human nature but it's still wrong.

They have actually really become much more strict with who can and cannot become editors for DMOZ especially for these reasons. Nonetheless, DMOZ has seen and continues to see its moments of corruption for reasons that people have already posted about. However you feel about DMOZ, it is still good to try and get a backlink from them. The more long-tail niche you are in, the better the chance of getting approved.

Nope

Dmoz never approves your listing anymore, they only accept their friends' sites.

I have never been a fan of DMOZ but looked at it as a necessary evil. Having said that, I recently submitted a website and in less then 1 week it was approved. Go figure.

One caveat....it was not a real estate site.
