I am trying to build the natural inbound link ratio to my website through viral marketing, but having difficulty figuring out what will work best. Here's my list so far, let me know if you have any other ideas:
1. Create city-directory for local vendors in Dallas of which I have had first-hand experience. Maybe someone will find this useful and bookmark the page or link to it.
2. Send email to my vendors requesting a link back to my website. This is more like a link-exchange, but still it would be better than nothing.
3. Create a video blog that markets one of my properties and post on MySpace, YouTube and Active Rain. This could get people talking about my marketing strategies and may make them link to me. (?)
4. Create a forum for the Dallas Metroplex that is continuously monitored by my web marketing firm, TheMarketingShop.com. This could get expensive and time-consuming, but would surely generate inbound links.
What other ways can I generate inbound links to my website naturally?

1. Good idea - but remember that users bookmarks interesting only interesting things.
2. I am not sure that it is ok. I am rejecting all these requests...
3. Sounds good. Will takes time
4. I am using this solution but it is hard because there are a lot of forums.
My suggestions:
1. Post articles with market researches, interesting facts about you city ... Pleace your deep links in the article
2. Post forums and make link in your signature.

Good tips.
Directory submissions are also good way of getting one way links.

Even though i only have a few months of experience when it comes to seo, but best advice is to submit to article directories. Yes it may take some time to write the articles, but its well worth it since you will be receiving a high rank one way link for free.

Can you give a list of the best sites for doing this on. It would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't so much look for a list of sites for this as I would a tool that does it for you. Submitting to article directories is very time consuming so I would suggest paying the fees for a subscription to a service like articlemarketer.com that does all of the work for you, all you have to do is write the article itself and hit send.
The one article directory you should submit to manually is ezinearticles.com, other than that go with a software.

Thank you for your response. My one concern about using posting software is it being viewed as spam. What do you think is the likelyhood that the social news sites will start preventing these programs from working? And how many posts do you think you can get away with without Google catching on as to it being done automated?

How about Press Release? They can also still help in link building.

Submitting articles should definitely be one of your major marketing activities.
I do not agree that using services for mass submissions are the preferred way since you will not have the possibility to diversify your anchor text, title and even some of the article body.
I would consider the article directories that provide you with the maximum value, meaning that send you targeted traffic, relevancy and make it easy for you and other readers to promote it in a viral manner.

Have you tried creating a group for homeowners on a social networking website such as Facebook? I wouldn't suggest making a "Dallas Real Estate Marketing Group", focus on the people you want to talk to. Maybe something along the lines of 'New to Dallas' and have a link to your website as help.
