Yep. It kicked my butt on a few secondary phrases on some of our sites. It looks like I need to strengthen the link text on internal links as well as get some external links to bring those phrases back up in the SERP's.

From what I have seen, the sites that didn't make it thru this one didn't have a lot of text around those links. That is only based on a few sites and a few terms that I have been looking at. I personally call them "loose links", the kind that doesn't really have a lot of foundation within the pages they are on.

btw did you find any info on this (http://blogs.msdn.com/msnsearch/archive/2005/06/21/431288.aspx) ?

I'm not sure where Japan fits into all of this but appearantly there is a new set of search operators.

My sites faired pretty well with the new algo at MSN. Been seeing some more traffic even! Was #1 for my main KWP Phoenix Real Estate, but then checked this morning and was down to #2. No biggie as long as I'm anywhere on the first page I'm a happy camper. :D

Hint: spend more time on your internal linking strategy than on your exernal one. You have more control over your internal linking and it will result in the bigger dividend.

I've just noticed, that we are #1 for " Real Estate Forum " on msn and our very own

Real Estate ABC (http://www.national-real-estate-directory.com/real-estate-forum/member.php?u=135) is #1 for Real Estate.

Way to go, dudes

I'm tempted to be happy.

I remember when I was so enthused about "Clever" and Teoma came out, which was supposed to use the "Clever" approach to search. It was v-cool for two weeks (when I was number one), then they messed Teoma up and it got all wiggy.

For "real estate"...

MSN --- #1
Yahoo --- #8
Google --- #16

Here is what is weird about Google. If I don't change my home page at all and leave it alone for four weeks or so, it seems to keep creeping up.

I was looking at Teoma, and the description of my site is like the one from 1998 or so.

lol, I have noticed those things as well. Google seems to have a lot of mini filters and for some reason they do NOT like changes. The best way with Google IMO is to be passive aggressive. Wait and see. It's weird how they dominate the search engine world and no one seems to be able to figgure them out. I think they have serious trust issues with webmasters and just take a long time to warm up to anything new :)

ha ha, you made me laugh. It was "just" MSN...and it was just for one day. I didn't take it real seriously.

You'll live longer with that attitude (when it comes to msn algorithm changes).

No doubt!

But I highly doubt Bill Gates is going to lay down and let Google run the show once he feels his search engine is up to par... look out advertising budjet (and I'm sure his is the size of a small countriesnational budget).

I agree, there is a lot more to come. Last thing I've heard, msn is looking for some seo's to help them test and improve their search results.

Interested reading, both the article and the weblog. If MSN can improve content analysis and evalutation then they will be in the driver's seat for relevant search. Success will force Google to re-think their linking obsession.
