Why not try SMO( Social Media Optimization),especifically on stumble upon- a great way to get traffic also but your content must be compelling and interest the community. And put your relevant keywords in it as tags.

Create accounts on a bunch of the blog directories. There are a ton of them, so just google "blog directories" and submit. They get my posts on the first page of google in a matter of hours.

Make efficient use of social book marking sites and social news sites. The best way to go about this is to join a group. I am putting together a Digg group. We have 15 interested individuals now and plan to launch once we reach 20. If you are interested add me to your friends list and post your interest in the thread called "I want to start a Digg group." By simply placing a link of your site here through forums signatures will do. It will bring traffic to your site. But of course, as other have said, social bookmarking sites are very effective in getting high traffic.
