Hi!

I think you should change this rule of being able to write an html link only after 15 posts on the forum.
It is a bad idea.
I can guarantee that many of the posts/replies like : "Try on Google"; "Blogs are better" are wrote by people who struggle to get their 15 posts. What's the added value? None...

I did not realise that was the case but I must agree. There are some odd posts on this fourm, I now see why.

My understanding is that the post has to be a certain number of words (don't remember how many) in order for it to count towards your 15. This being said the post like "Try on Google" wouldn't really benefit the person.
This rule is in place to prevent spam and it seems to be working.

I definitely think that there should be something there for the spam blocking. There are too many people who get onto a forum just to spam it. I am a member of several other forums, and a moderator for a major networking website. There are several people that log on and think they can spam the members.

I'm all for the 15 post limit, though!

Hi I am new here, and I agree totally that this is a problem. If someone wants to benefit their own site by posting here, then they should at least be adding some value to this forum through honest sincere threaded discussion contributions relevant to the thread at hand. Relevant to this Real Estate Forum, so that agents and brokers can come to network within the real estate industry and share valuable marketing information without having to deal with spam.

I agree with LOTrainer - how many times have we suffered with "buy my wonderful product" on post # 1

I just joined today and I am a house flipper but also sell advertising / business lists / directory listings etc..

I am here to learn but also fully realize the financial benefits of eventually being a valued trusted member of this site.

I do have alot of experience to share and if putting up 15 different quality posts that help others is the price for being able to put links to my site I have no issue with that. Its no different than doing business offline. You need to give as good as you get.

regards,

Pierre Lessard

I actually think that it is a good idea. I am a member of several forums in which Spammers like to come in and try and take over.

If you cannot use HTML until after the 15th post it helps to weed out those bad people :)

I think that every forum should do this.

This was something that I was discussing in another forum yesterday.

It is definitely a good thing. It is a deterrent to spammers indeed. Most established forums have some type of requirement like this.

I dont have an opinion either way...thats how they set this forum up so be it, what I dont understand is how some of my posts show the signature file and then some dont...I dont get it.

Rob they have the forum set to only allow signatures in one post per page, so if you replied a couple of times on the same post only one has the signature. At least that is what is stated on sign up information.

I'm new here as well, and think that there should be some form of limits set by the mods to control the spamming issues that could occur.

Hopefully we all have something that we can contribute to this forum as well, and if we have a product or service to promote that can benefit the whole than thats ok too...

Everyone can benefit from new ideas that all members can bring to the table...everyone wins...

The 15 min posts are ok in my book as well...and i'm still trying myself to get there.

I to am not a big fan of the 15 posts rule but looking at it from both views I am for the requirement, just not so many. I think 10 or so would be a reasonable number to keep members honest and non spam.

I thought it was odd also and that is why I am posting here. To pad my count. Oh well.

Does it work twice? I don't know but be sure to have at least 15 characters. My count is now 5.

Yes it works and 15 or more characters later the count is 6.

I have no problem with the 15 post rule. I got my first 15 on day 1. I feel like it is worth the seo and possible exposure for my website. I really appreciate the info that I would gain from this site as well.

good morning Broker1 -

you are a liitle more blantant than the rest of us ;) we simply gave a 50 character welcome to the next 15 new members and then "really" joined the forum

I think it's a good idea - as I mentioned on another thread I had to close a forum due to excess spam. I wish I'd thought of the 15 post rule.

Of course I could just greet 15 new people and get my count up but I am here to give and receive advice and experience, not just promote my blog, business etc.

Sometimes we just have to give before we can get :p

There are tools to block spammers. Restricting users from posts is not the best way to protect the forum.

Besides, we join to exchange information. That's what posting is all about.

If the site does not have the tools to block spamming, then maybe a less restrictive number would work just as well. 15 is high.

I am sure there is a certain amount of posting just to get the links. Have seen the same thing on other forums as well. It is really actually a good idea.

I think it should be 30 or 40. It is not difficult to contribute. I think as of this post I have close to 30 or so. Just share your expertise or ask a real question that you have. Search my User name, all of them have been to contribute in some shape or form. Sandbagging to get there is ridiculous.

This is a tool to learn from and it should be used as such. Spamming needs to strictly controlled as it detracts from the credibility of this site.

It is just there to promote interaction within the forum. If you feel you can contribute, you should have no problem

Fine by me, it gets rid of the spammers.

I do think there is a longterm benefit to signature links, even if it is only a small one.

Interestingly, I've just noticed that they have a rule that requires a minimum number of words in a post to get the benefit of the signature links.

I'm good with the 15 posts before getting to post
outside links. I've been on lots of forums and there
are packed with single posting members who join
post their link and disappear.

What good does it do to 10,000 members on a site
it 9000 were just single posters and then left.

Good policy!
