i am a designer and i am waiting for my real estate license, i was looking for some sugestions. i was thinking about doing some work for realtors but i dont know exactly how to get into that kind of work. should i be looking for jobs online or should i just walk into a century 21 and ask if they need a designer??? does any one know if you need a degree or ur license to be a designer for a real estate company???

Do you have anyone that you know of in the Real Estate Industry (Realtors, primarily) that could get you in the door with their company? That would most likely be the easiest way to get it done if you had the contacts. Other than that, try to call and set up an appointment with the broker. Just an idea for you. I wish you the best!

Firstly, you should create some type of portfolio so that you have something to show others as to what you can do. Then, you can approach individual agents with this and show them how creating this new site will improve their business

I agree about having a portfolio. Even if you have to make some "fake" sites people will want to see what kind of property sites you can do.

My husband has done 6 real estate websites now and each one has required something different, e.g. some are database driven, some agents upload their own properties, for some agents he does it and so on.

What he's learned is to be flexible and, because he's now specialised somewhat in this field, he knows what agencies are looking for so he can work with them to create what they want within their budget. Unfortunately budget is the hardest! I don't know what it's like in your area but agencies around here think you can have state of the art for peanuts. But then they also seem to think the Internet is just a fad :p

I have been doing sites and graphics since 99 and everyone always wants the farm for free.

Starting out you may have to do a bunch of sites for very little just to build a portfolio. But after that stand your ground. You may have to turn some people away. I quoted a Real Estate agent a couple years ago and they acted insulted that it was going to cost so much for a site. But hey, it is what it is and I don't work for free.

It comes down to a portfolio. Build a nice one and the work will find you.

Good think your in a webmaster forum where you can learn about being a webmaster so that you can spark up a design career online. Try adding meta tags to your sites and title tags.

Then start building links and asking us guys what to do.

What exactly is a licensed web designer. Excuss my ignorance but I have not heard of this before...where would you get this lic.

I suggest to google some realty sites that you think needs an improvement on their site or try to look at the yellowpages to get more infos.
