Hello,
I've been considering one of those mid-life career changes that are so popular now. I've bought and sold 6 houses in my life and always found the process fascinating.
I am currently a hospice nurse, actually a hospice administrator and run 8 offices with over 200 employees. I'm getting burned out. I want to master something new. (and not be responsible for 200 people!)
The good thing about this experience is I am obviously skilled with dealing with families under high stress and I am the pony the marketers trot out when they need to impress a big client, so I'm capable of making a good impression.
If I was making this decision 5 years ago, it would be a no-brainer. Great market. My concern now is getting into this business in such a soft market.
My husband thinks I am crazy (that's another post) he tells me companies are going out of business and the sky is falling, realtors are committing suicide and this is a bad time to get into this field.
Also, his mother was a real estate agent and I think he may have had a traumatic realtor's kid experience. (Is it common for your kids to hate the field you work in?)
Anyway, I'm going to sign up for an online course just to get more informed, but would love to hear about how your lives are really going.
Thanks,
Carol

Carol, I can tell that, even though you are getting burnt out in your current field, that you have a great passion for what you do right now! But, let's talk about your entry into the Real Estate industry.

I want to, first of all, welcome you to the Real Estate Forum! Second, I want to express that a full-time career path in the Real Estate industry is like no other full-time career. Clients come first, and you have to voice your expectations of the relationship that you have with your clients. I think that is/was the hardest part that I had to learn over the years of being a mortgage broker/loan officer.

Right now, the market is a little soft, but people are still looking for homes, and they all need professional help (well, who doesn't, really :D).

If you are seriously attempting to get into the industry on a full-time basis, I would obtain your license, and get signed on with a top-notch training Real Estate Agency. My personal preference with those high-profile places is Keller Williams because they have excellent training for all their agents, and it's ongoing as well.

Anyway, I won't bore you anymore, but I do look forward to hearing from you soon!
