How does one know how many reputation points one has?
Once one knows how many points one has, how does one figure out "who give-ith and who take-ith away"?

In your cpanel (http://national-real-estate-directory.com/real-estate-forum/usercp.php?) you should see "Latest Reputation Received" on the bottom. The good ones are green, the bad ones red :)

The most important part of the reputation system is IMO the comments. Saying what you like or dislike. It helps. If someone upsets you, you just let them know what it was thru a small remark. If you like something, mention what it is :) Basically, you can give feedback on a post without saying it publically or PMing someone, it is a small feature to uplift someone or keep them in line ;)

Okay, I see it when I go to UserCP, but it doesn't show who gave it. Should it? Also, where does one view their rep? IE How does one know their rep level?

Mike,
I hit refresh and still do not see who sent it. I do however now see my total reputation now.
Please up the limit for attachments to at least 300KB. I sent you an email with a screen shot that I would have gladly psoted here but it wouldn't let me because the screen shot is 175KB.

I think the username is hidden in the interests of world peace and anonymity. Ok if you give +ve reputation but it could start a war if you give -ve.

Maybe that's because you're a super moderator. Normal users and moderators can't ;)

I just gave it a try on a spammer and now realize that I don't want that person to see that I did it because I'm sure he would just come back & do it to me out of spite and then leave the forum anyway.

So we've figured it out. Mike and Super Moderators can see who assigned a reputation point, the rest of us can not. Probably for the better! :)
Shawn, do you see one from me from yesterday?
Also, is it one point, or ten points at a time? I have been going on the assumption that it is one point given or taken at a time, but I'm not so sure anymore...

The more posts you have, the more it counts, the higher your own reputation, the more it counts and I think Mods, Super MOds and Admins count a lot more. Coming from digitalpoint I have received reputations from 0 (new or low rep members) to a point which counted 7 today.

I don't know how I missed out on seeing this reputation thing. If someone is going to give you a "bad rep", they should be required to list their name and reason. On DP, Shawn replied in response to my question that members do not need a reason to give a bad rep and do not have to sign their name. The members of this forum seem more mature than on DP and not likely to drop bad reps for no good reason at all.
I have been hanging out at SitePoint quite a bit. There are some good people there and it's a fun place. I saw the high membership numbers and jumped right in. Have been getting some good business there. :) :) :)

I think the reputation thing has good and bad aspects. People are quick to give you a bad rap if they don't have to take responsibilities for their actions, and even slower to give a good rap if they are not going to get credit.
Using the same theory however, getting a good rap by people whom don't get credit for giving you a good vote, really separates the good ones from the chaff.
Just my two cents.

I first saw this post some days back and had no clue what anyone was talking about, and I haven't posted in this thread because I didn't want to admit I didn't know what it was about.
Then I saw this number at the top of everyone's post and thought, "By Golly, this must be the reputation score everyone is talking about!"
Everyone was up in the 20's (except for me).
It turns out I wasn't viewing the "Reputation Points" at all. The number I was looking at was the number of that particular post in the conversation thread.
Oh.
It took a few days to figure that out.
And I still had no clue what anyone was talking about.
"There is no such thing as a stupid question." (Sure).
Finally, I figured out how to look up my own number of "reputation points" (I guess I should stick to saying only positive things from now on), but I don't know how many postive votes or negative votes it took to get to that "reputaion." I don't know how many "reputation points" are good and how many are bad. There is no context (that I know of) to learn if someone is really low on the reputation totem pole or a reputuation guru.
I'm trying to understand, and my old senile addled brain is failing.
(Don't take the "age" test!)

Terry,
Check your "User CP" and look towards the bottom of the center.
I just gave you a rep point, or points... :D

OKay, following instructions, I brilliantly clicked on "User CP" on the right-hand side (oops...left-hand side) of the blue menu bar at the top. "CP" stands for Control Panel, I assume.
(Five paragraphs deleted that explain my exhaustive search and feeble attempt to follow instructions)....
Obviously, I'm an imbecile.
Oh...
Duh...(!)
There is a big blue bar that says, "Latest Reputation Points Received" and what it lists are evidently NOT threads you have subscribed to, but the posts where someone "voted" a reputation point (that last would make sense if I hadn't deleted the above five paragraphs).
I never visit the Control Panel. This is probably why it takes me a month to answer private messages. I just read the interesting stuff in the forums and post when I have something to say (and sometimes when I don't have anything to say).
So, one last question.
How do we know who is good and who is evil? Inquiring minds, and all....

Above everyone's post is a green box. If you hold your cursor over the green box, you discover that someone is on a "distinguished road"....

I've started getting bad reps when voicing my opinions in another forum before. I was in shock. I had no idea what a rep system really is but suddenly I realized that it was something that people use to voice themselves when they don't want to do it publically. Thankfully I was getting more positive reps for my comments though from the ones who read them and agreed with me.

This has been a great forum. PLEASE let's keep it that way and not start any political debates. All that accomplishes is to cause bad feelings and of course nothing is ever "settled". Remember Mikey that I was in that same debate on your side - and the visciousness and hatred were appalling. The lack of control from Admin is what turned me off to that forum and why I rarely ever go there anymore. The postings there violated every rule I have ever seen in forum guidelines and nobody seemed to care.

I think that political debate is a good thing when it is conducted by mature adults. In fact, I find the views of some people to be highly entertaining ;)
Here are my views:
All war is bad.
Peace is good.
Terrorists are evil.
Sometimes war serves the greater good.
Sometimes it doesn't.
Somebody spiked Tom Cruise's drink.
Our two party political system has paralyzed the government's ability to do the right thing for its citizens.
Governments should make and enforce laws, not provide hand outs or buy $200 toilet seats.
Man is generally greedy.
Although I have not had one in decades, I like Twinkies.
If our government spent less money on corporate aid, handouts, and illegal aliens we could provide a better education and quality of life for our own citizens.
We should hold a rally to attract 2,000,000 US citizens, storm the Mexican border, and drink all of their Tequila. And then stiff them for the bill.
