Here's a tip when submitting to blog directories...
A blog directory is NO USE if they use a "link-off redirect" or counter to link to your site. Why? Because you do not get any "link juice" or pagerank passed to your site if the link is a redirect. 90% of the blog directories out there use this technique and require you to put their link on your site, thus passing them one-way "link juice". Always hover over the outgoing links and see if they are direct before submitting.
The best directory I know of, totally free and passes you at least two backlinks is
Blog Rate Directory (http://www.blogratedirectory.com/)
This one is going to be at least PR6-PR7 in the Q4 Google update, and it passes serious "juice" and Google seems to love it because I submitted my newest blog to only that site and was indexed in Google in 24 hours.
