Here's a tip when submitting to blog directories...

A blog directory is NO USE if they use a "link-off redirect" or counter to link to your site. Why? Because you do not get any "link juice" or pagerank passed to your site if the link is a redirect. 90% of the blog directories out there use this technique and require you to put their link on your site, thus passing them one-way "link juice". Always hover over the outgoing links and see if they are direct before submitting.

The best directory I know of, totally free and passes you at least two backlinks is

Blog Rate Directory (http://www.blogratedirectory.com/)

This one is going to be at least PR6-PR7 in the Q4 Google update, and it passes serious "juice" and Google seems to love it because I submitted my newest blog to only that site and was indexed in Google in 24 hours.

Google indexes blogs pretty quick in general as google is on the lookout for new content...always

I don't look for link juice from the directories. What I like is they syndicate my blogs for me and get them all over the web in a matter of hours.

I am not really happy over the last few months with the quality of the backlinks that I get from directories. It seems that unless you are paying for some good quality ones it may not really be worth it.

I know if you are interested that on Digital Point Forums there is a few people that will do directory submissions cheap.

I think the best really is to just write better content and submit ot Stumbleupon or use Onlywire for more backlinks of some quality.

I also added my blog to that directory, did not install their tracking thing, as I do not wish to create any sort of reciprocal link type thing.
