View Full Version : The Illogical Use of Adsense

In my opinion, any business that sells a product or a service shouldn't have Adsense on their website. Why? Because with Adsense, you're promoting your competition, that's why. If you had a brick and mortar business, would you put your competitors ads in your store window? Of course you wouldn't. That wouldn't make any sense, now would it?

Well, by having Adsense on your website, you're essentially doing the same thing. That doesn't make any sense either. Not to mention the fact that there are some people who won't even patronize your website, if you have Adsense on it.

That's definitely not a good situation. Besides, it's tough enough to convert visitors to your website into paying customers, without adding your competitors ads to the equation. Granted, many buyers are going to check out your competition anyway, before they make their decision to purchase. But heck, don't make it easy for them by having your competitors ads in plain sight right on your own website.

And even if you enable the Adsense filter to block out competitive ads, the ads themselves are still a distraction.

Why sabotage your own efforts by throwing distracting ads into the mix? See my point? If you want to monetize your site, affiliate programs are a much better option, when you take into consideration the measly few cents per click that Google is going to pay you for Adsense.

The fact of the matter is, with very few exceptions, unless your website has mega-traffic, those huge Adsense checks are simply not attainable.

Before writing this article, I actually researched this topic and the sites that I researched that were the most successful using Adsense were all high-traffic, free content sites. For example free article directories, free dating sites, blogs, etc., that weren't selling anything. Not surprisingly, the sites that weren't as successful didn't have very much traffic and were trying to make money selling products in addition to using Adsense.

If you're selling something, to me it's counter-productive to send your visitors to another website, just to make a few pennies per click. It's just not logical to do that!

Do you agree or disagree?

I agree. When you put Adsense on your sites, you're pretty much (de)valuing potential leads to mere cents when you should be thinking in dollars. But hey, if people want to go that route (especially if its local competition), then I won't object ;)!

95% true...
The other 5%?
If you a commercial agent selling hotels and motels in your city, your adsense will be the hotel and motel rental advertising, not your competitor...because of the keywords density...

When ever i see an agent's site with adsense on it I cringe. I wonder if they drive down the road throwing money out the window too.

I don't know about "any business that sells a product or a service" but I certainly agree for residential real estate. Is it really worth a few bucks in the short term to lose clients in the long run?

Totally agree...why put Adsense on your site when you just want a clean site?

Adsense google is a scam. It is losing its value.
Most internet marketing Pro never use goodle adsense because of poor contextual Ads and no customer support when your account is inactivate for no reasons at all.

On my sites, I put my paid advertisers banners, they compliment what the site is all about.

I pretty much agree with the whole issue of not putting Adsense on your site. For the amount of money you get per-click, it's just not worth it to divert your traffic to other sites...

Then again though, I love people (well... competitors) that put Adsense on their site. That just gives me the opportunity to put my ads on their site ;).

Google can and will inactivate your account just for no reasons at all and most people are finding out the hard way...

I just enjoyed your creative efforts. I am a fan of adsense but always enjoy it when people take the time to create interesting marketing avenues to promote their product.

Good Effort.

Adsense is not entirely useless on sites like this, where you can manage your campaign and make sure you exclude your direct competition. It's the lazy mans marketing tool and it's what makes Google rich.

I find it to be a complete waste of time all together. It used to be that people did not realize what it was and click on it. You also don't get paid until you reach $100.00.

Totally agree. And when you reached $90 , you get the email from them saying that your account is being inactivated for click fraud.
Worst still, there is no recourse.....You are guilty!!!

Well you all are right in your own way

But i look at this way
When do people click on adsense ads, when they find that your site is not offering exactly what they want or they have got bored:rolleyes: with it

So instead of someone just hitting the back button in the browser wont it be nice to make some cash from the click, of course i am not discounting the fact that few genuine customers may click away, but how many of them-that is a risk which one needs to take
