I have used myfico.com for years and recommend this site to all my clients. If you need to increase your credit score then the scorewatch service is great, because you can track your progress continuously for one annual fee rather than paying each time you get your credit score.

Also, if you just need your credit report you can get a free copy from all three credit reporting agencies once per year from annualcreditreport.com

Another benefit of myfico (dot) com is that it doesn't ding your credit report when you get it pulled there. Don't use any of the free services b/c they generally will have an effect on your score. This effect actually doesn't show up unless the credit is checked several times from one of these services, I believe.

Ryan, I have to agree with the other postings that myfico.com has been a great resource for my clients. When you clean up your credit, make sure that you have the lender either do a rapid rescore, or you wait a little while prior to checking credit in order for the 3 bureaus to update.

It never dings your credit score when "you" pull your report or score. It only dings it if there is an inquiry by a creditor/vendor.

If you are shopping for a car or home, do all of your shopping around within a 14 day period and multiple inquiries of the same type will only count as one. You still have to watch the credit reporting agencies and if they ding you more than once file a dispute. I don't care what anybody says they are unscrupulous bastards and they will try to get away with anything.

Another reason to have myFICO's score watch. Go to the "Best FREE stuff" page on my website for a link to a free trial of score watch.

Hey thanks for the info. on myfico.com I never new about the 14 days counting as one. I use to worry as you said when you shop around they all want credit reports. I like the idea of score watch.

My sons currently buying a house and just got approved for a loan this past Monday. They warned him no large purchases or paying late which was at the holidays was difficult because it may change his score.
