Does anyone have any tips on MSN optimization? I heard they recently changed their algorithm, and our rankings (or lack of) proved it. Don't worry, I'm not trying to optimize for MSN!! - just want to know what's going on in the industry.
I have about 50 first page placements on the big g but I am nowhere to be found on MSN and Yahoo. Fortunately they don't matter. I have done a lot of research and always come up blank. The answers I get don't work.

Yahoo! and MSN are still good or okay SE's and should not be over looked, I used to get a lot of business from these two and I have also seen changes in MSN and would also like to find out what has happened.
Both Yahoo and MSN have millions of e-mail account holders that still regularly use the search services which is the main reason I will never turn my back on them, I understand why lots of SE promoters solely optimize for google as it has the biggest usage in the market but I never put all my eggs in one basket.
I am not ignoring them on purpose. They are ignoring me. I have done everything I could find to make them happy to no prevail. I try to not worry about things over which I have no control.

For starters, make sure your site is submitted annually to the Yahoo! directory. I can't stress that enough. It's a very simple tactic that is often overlooked.

How did you get the first page placements?
I started out by googling "seo" and then I googled everything that I found over and over again. It involved a lot of research and a lot of writing. It took a lot of work and a lot of time but it was worth it. It is not hard, just time consuming.
I agree SEO is not hard...but can be very time consuming. Unless you change your business structure over to online only...then it is basically your job for 8+ hours a day (or in my case, about 12-15) but I dont mind.

MSN uses a different Algorithm than Google does. So they are looking for similar but different things. You are right Google owns about 60% of the search engine market.
Have you heard about MSN making a bid for Yahoo. Google is upset! As we all know there are 3 major SE's MSN, Yahoo, and GOOGLE so the combination of the bottom two will take a bigger chunk of the market if they can innovate their search engine.
If am vigorously watching to see how it all plays out.

Well, while that might not happen now, even if it does, they are going to really have to improve both Yahoo and MSN's search engine or combine them into one super search engine because right now they both stink. Right now if you are marketing a site, I wouldn't even worry too much about MSN's rankings because they are all screwed up anyway and they won't generate you nearly as much traffic as Google and Yahoo will.

hi here are some tips in msn optimization
Depending on what part of the world you're trying to reach, it's well worth it to optimize for MSN. So what does Microsoft's search engine like? Keep reading to find out.If there is anything that will make the SERPs of MSN different from that of Google, Yahoo! and other search engines, it is its bias towards frequently updated web pages. This bias is fortunately a positive bias, and on its search engine help page, they actually indicate that pages which are frequently updated will receive higher rankings than sites that do not update regularly. Check out http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner.aspx?
t=SEARCH_WEBMASTER_REF_GuidelinesforOptimizingSite .htm (http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner.aspx?t=SEARCH_WEBMASTER_REF_Guidelinesfo rOptimizingSite.htm) for its official recommendations concerning general MSN optimization.
So here is the lowdown on MSN optimization, but the freshness has to key in with other things that MSN considers important. First we will look at "defining freshness."
Defining Freshness
Being fresh is like going to the beauty shop and wearing new clothes. It is not something that many websites are known for.
Freshness simply means regularly updating your web site's content. By regular I mean at least monthly, and if necessary weekly; by regular I mean activity on your site. In tune with MSN, freshness means updating your content to fit in with your web site's description, in line with your SEO keyword strategy. Updating with no attention paid to your SEO keyword strategy is not recommended (that is me being polite), and will not help with MSN.
Freshness is about content, content, and more content. Freshness is about theme-based pages and pages that have a relatively high key word density for the search term.
Their emphasis on freshness will help MSN give the searcher high quality results and results which are valuable, while weeding out billions of other web sites that simply don't offer good content. This is the main focus of most search engines since they are aware that consistently good results on their pages will result in repeat users (which is what we all want).
Freshness will affect both MSNbot and Yahoo Slurp since they both crawl the Internet pretty frequently. Yahoo still has the advantage when it comes to regular refreshing; however, freshness has not been noted to affect rankings on Yahoo. On MSN it does. And the difference in crawling time is only for URLs in Yahoo's Sitematch program.

a lot of good points in previous posts. If you do the right things for Google you will find the results in others will follow as well. All the algos are different but have common elements.
i did a test on a web site about 6 months ago and all we did was use the strong tag element on the selected keywords and MSN rankings jumped a heap. this also helps the other SE as well, but MSN was significant.
if it makes your page look funny with the bold use your css sheet to make them look normal. and only use this two or three times per keyword phrase per page, otherwise it will look unnatural and may be penalised in the SE.

From what I have seen a lot of, MSN is typically called a wasteland of searches. But I have a couple sites that I have listed there in the top searches so maybe that’s not always the case. It all depends on what people are searching for I guess.
