Though there are a number of templates, both cheap and expensive, available for real estate professionals out there, there is a necessity to integrate search engine optimization at the design stage itself, especially when writing content for the website. What keywords are search for? How to organize the site structure and what phrases to use in titles. In the long run these factors determine your search engine ranking. I would advise you to go to a webdesign site that offers marketing too. They have a lot of such solutions.

Those are some good tips. However, keep in mind that SEO is an ongoing process - there is never a "finish line" to SEO efforts. While a Web design company is a great place to achieve initial SEO "bang", you must continue optimizing your Website to maintain or further improve its position in search engine results.

Hi Dan,

Agreed that SEO is a continuing process, but with the initial bang you cannot go down lower if as wikkideclipse says you are spying on your competitor.

But initial SEO helps save the revamping cost later. Moreover if you are onto social & business networking you are doing SEO all by yourself.

Best part of this post is discussing that SEO efforts should begin at the design stage- VERY true. For example: You could design a wonderful website, but if it is done in frames- it will be an extremely long time before you rank for anything. There are 2 main factors to SEO efforts:

onpage
offpageOnpage means your design, title bar, headers, text, keyword densitys etc. Offpage is all about links.

Actually I made this post because I refused to listen to my web designer,and am now paying dividends. My web design company advised me to go in for SEO at the development stage itself (In fact later I learnt they were one of the few authentic ones that do so) but I refused to put in the cost at that time.
Now I am paying twice as much to repair the wrong.

Actually I realised that having SEO done at the design stage helps you focus on the target and the part of business you want to concentrate on. What's your website's demographic pattern and lots of other questions that brings the objective of your website into clearer focus. It has cleared my mind now...

Yes, you guys are all right. Have an SEO plan when you go to design your site. SEO is an ongoing process. It can take more then a year to get that #1 spot on Google, and that's no joke. It's all about continued optimization, link building and quality content.

Every real estate agent who wants to be #1 on Google needs to have a monthly SEO guy optimizing his or her site.

Also, make sure you choose someone who isn't going to do you more harm then good. Good SEO is very much about knowing what not to do, because Google is touchy when they think you are trying to artificially boost your ranking.

My SEO company also tells me that different strategies have to be taken with different keywords. Like they rank "buy a house" more difficult than "buy a house + Los Angeles". They told me they would charge me more for "buy a house" because buy a house is more general and therefore competitive than "buy a house + Los Angeles".

I think if we get to the crux of it, we come up with a solid website.

Yes,

We all know our own tricks. SEO is hard work. Sometimes you love it, sometimes it gets old but as long as you are making a good amount of money from it then you are a web master.

You need some business sense. As well as the ability to create sites. Spying is good. But its still hard work. If you are into it and you do it every day. You will make some $, hopefully

Thanks for the link to the tutorial - tons of great information. I agree SEO is hard work and there's no finish line. You definitely need a strategy and to stick with it.

Yes, SEOmoz is good and it makes sense to read even if you have outsourced your seo to check if your seo company is doing things right or not.
