I am moving out to the Albuquerque area in a few months and I am looking to buy a house when I get out there. After doing some research online I found some information about a company called Falcon Ridge Development that builds what they call modular homes. They say that they are factory built homes, but that they rival any site-built home for aesthetics, and are superior in terms of quality, value and time to construct.
I am not familiar with this style of home. Is it as nice as they say or is investing in something like this a bad idea? Thanks for any help you can provide. ;)

Depending on who is building them, they could end up being better built than on-site stick built. However, I think most every buyer, if given the choice and the homes were identical, would choose a standard on-site built home. Be careful of the stigma.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into this further.

1st thing to check out is how are you going to finance it if you need to and more importantly how lenders will look at it if you need to sell it.
Could cause you problems when it comes to sell. Would be really bad if you got in a crunch and couldnt sell the place.
Good Luck

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I did go out to the New Mexico area and check out some of these houses. I was impressed by how nice they were. They look just as good as any site built home and are a bit cheaper (well everything seems cheap after living in NYC for a while).
I did look into the finance information like you suggested, TJ2007, and it turns out that the same company who builds the house will finance it for you. They also told me that I shouldn't have any problem selling it when/if I decide to (of course they would say this but I wasn't planning on moving again for a while).
Anyways I just wanted to say thanks again and let you know that the houses ended up being nicer than I expected. In fact my wife and I are now leaning in this direction more than we were before. Thanks.

Before buying one of these I would seriously meet with a great agent in the area even if it is on the phone - I do have a great agent friend there - I would be happy to give you her information.
