Choose your IDX carefully. It is the key to generating leads and the start to Client Reltionship Management. Needs to be a clean, point and click interface with a strong call to action. Let me know if you need more info. The IDX used on the Hathaway Site under property search has genrated over 800 real estate leads during the last 3 months.
Thx!!

Yes....I would agree with selecting the proper person/programmer for the IDX solution and when ever you have the chance you should NEVER use a framed solution if you want to gain an SEO advantage over your competitors.

I could show you Web site after Web site that is invisible to search engines because it was designed in frames. OR even if the site isn't framed, the IDX is...

It's better to build your own IDX solution.

I am building my wife's website, and I know nothing about IDX as it pertains to programming. Is it a database dump, or is it an XML feed?

I have a CSV file , I parse it , add records to database.

Ahhh, it's a CSV thanks a ton! That helps me out getting ready to consume the data.

Are IDX solutions only available to brokers or agents working for brokers?

If you are a member of a particular board, have access to their MLS, you should be able to get your own IDX information.
Choosing a good company for the IDX solution makes a big difference. :)
Some are great. Some are nightmares. Read up on whichever company you are considering.

It's also a good idea to keep some ideas for SEO. A website can look great, but it doesn't do very much if it doesn't have some SEO points in it: like title, description, keywords. A website which looks good will do the work after people hear about it. But in order to hear about it, you have to work on SEO for it. When you order a website, make sure it looks good but also, make sure that it has some SEO stuff on it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good IDX provider? I've been looking for one that does clean work that helps with the search engines. SEO experts, what are your recommendations?

There are many IDX providers out there, their services start from iframe-ing to custom sites. Some of them provide SEO services as well, but you should check out the one you choose, i've heard stories that some of them charged registering a domain like a seo services(i mean they charged a lot only for registering a domain - even if it wasn't a very good one)

yes be very careful, I have gone the custom rout. Used the Keller Williams junk for a little bit and found it impossible. Also still use RE/MAX IDX on my templet there, but for my personal site I use a fully custom IDX and it is great.
