write good content and link! In the mean time go to yahoo and pay for hits! thats the best way... to start out till you can fade to "free" hits... how many links do you have to your website??

I did create a sig and put my website within there. My site pretty much is about flipping houses and investing in real estate. I know I paid for 100 links to my website thru some directory submission company but im not sure how to tell how many accual incoming links I have. Is there any way to tell?
Thanks

I know I always say link exchanging is a thing of the past but it is a great way of starting off. I do it with all my new sites, then after a two month stint of link exchanging I using stop and remove the links.
Make a start on getting one way links by writing articles, using forums, posting on blogs, directories and making sure you have a quality site for visitors to return to.

Hello,
Search engines are getting smarter day by day and rankings are based on many factors but I have fast solution for you which will definitely work for you.
Do hire some writer and ask him to write unique article for you on your website. Its services and other things you think best for others to know about you or what you have different etc. You can get good article for around $10 per article.
Then look for article submission websites. Here you may need to pay some $$$ is you are looking for quick quality results. Do pay such submission services to post your article on the web. Its not like your article will remain on that website only. These sites will submit your article to media, and other subscribers as well as other article directory websites.
You know what? These article websites generally have 4+ page ranks if they are doing serious business and when your article goes to such directories, you get FREE one way link to your website which in result boost your website's page rank.
Again, nothing happens in a day, you will have to give it time of few months to get results.
Good Luck!

"I know I paid for 100 links to my website thru some directory submission company but im not sure how to tell how many accual incoming links I have. Is there any way to tell?"
Maybe you paid $2.95 to have your site submitted to a gazillion directories that aren't worth spit. That won't help you, but it won't hurt you.
On the other hand, if you've paid real money for links to your site, you could be in trouble. The major seach engines know which sites charge real money for links, and they don't like those sites.
You're not going to get indexed by Google or the other major SE's in a matter of days, or even weeks. (Assuming, of course, that your site is new). More than likely, it could take a month or two before your site is even in the index. And then it will take months more before you start to rank for your keywords.
If you want to see if your site is even indexed, go to Yahoo.com, and do a search for site:www.mysite.com. Or you can do the same with Google.
Just have patience. I rolled out a new 1000+ page site in June of 2004. It wasn't even crawled by Google for nearly three months, and didn't show up in the index until about October or so. It wasn't until about December that the site even started ranking for my best search terms.
By March of 2005, though, I was at nearly 100,000 visitors. By March of 2006, I was over 200,000 visitors, and had over a million page views per month.
Nothing goes as planned, and everything takes longer than you expected.

there are over a million directories, give it up they are worthless essentially. go to forum.digitalpoint.com and make posts on there with a link in your signature, make sure to submit your content to google and yahoo. get to know google very well, they offer a ton of ways to track your traffic and your keywords, etc.

Keep in mind that everything should be done in moderation (kind 'a like other things in life :) ). If you take off and do too much too fast, this will set you back further in your page rankings than you are currently.
With steady work and attention, you will get there.
I also would recommend doing a mail out to your SOI. I saw a huge jump on my visits just after my mailing hit my homes.

I just took the "noindex, nofollow" tags off the pages of my site last week (5/25).
I only have 65 pages of content on the site right now. Google came by the other day and looked at all of them.
Today I went to the Google Datacenter watch site (http://www.mcdar.net/dance/index.php), and saw that Google has anywhere from one to five of the pages in the index.
Compared to what I went through with the other site in 2004, this is lightning fast.
Just keep adding new pages with good content, and getting new links.

Dont forget to write articles for press release... any way to get more traffic is great. News is a very easy way to do that... I think certain directories are ok if they bring you a few hits its worth it... you might sell a house from any of those hits! :)

The fastest I've been indexed by google is 8 hours. It can be done, but you need to be clever.
I suggest that you establish a long-term campaign, and start writing/submiting articles. You'll get free backlinks from each article. As a bonus, if someone publishes your article, you'll get more links and a sudden rush of traffic.
Article writing is the safe and sure way. It takes time though. And you will need to write pretty good content to get past the people who approve/disapprove articles.

Hello. You need constant new content, so the browser consider you to be in more and more search results. That is the best way to improve your visitors sources and frecuency. At least one new / day wil bring you lots of very good results.

This is 100% NOT True. One high value trusted link and your site will most likely be indexed with hours, probably a day or two at the latest. In fact it may even rank for the terms you were trying to rank for, depending on how competitive the term or terms are. Now it probably won't stay there very long unless you do all the other work (content, links, etc..).

dbar, I won't argue with you. Apparently you've had a better experience than other webmasters I've talked with.
Are you referring to a brand-new site, or additional pages added to an existing site?
Unless the webmaster knows another webmaster with a highly-ranked, high PR site, how does one go about getting a link to a new site?
I mean no disrespect by asking these questions. Your answers could prove invaluable to a lot of forum members.
Hi Monkeyleg,
No disrespect taken. I hope I didn't come across harsh saying "100% not true", as it wasn't meant to be. I was just trying to point out that it is possible to get indexed quickly.
Yes, I was referring to a brand new site.
Unless the webmaster knows another webmaster with a highly-ranked, high PR site, how does one go about getting a link to a new site?A lot of webmasters have several different websites. If some of those websites are seen as an authority by the search engines and the SE spiders visit those sites several times a day, then placing a link to a new site from one of those "authority sites" can get the new site indexed quickly. This is not guaranteed, but it can and does happen. This also does not mean the new site will rank for the terms wanted, as that may take a little or a lot more work (depending on the competition).
If you don't have several sites and don't know anyone who will give you a link there are other options.
One would be buying a link or two. There may be risks involved - some believe this, some do not not. If you go this route, try to do it from a related site who does NOT advertise that they sell links.

Everyone here has given great tips! I think they've covered just about everything. The main things you need to get visitors are time, original content, quality links and an optimized website. You also need to make sure you keep adding good pages (keyword rich) to your website. Be sure that you don't over optimize each page as this could have a negative effect with search engines. You can also pay for hits, but these hits are not targeted and are often only used to increase your alexa rankings. Just keep in mind that Search Engine Optimization is not easy and that it takes hard work, dedication and a combination of several different things. Good luck and get some quality links (if they don't have a page rank, they won't help you out).

A quick way to see if you have inbound links from the directories that you have posted to is to use link:yoururl in google / yahoo /msn ( replacing yoururl with your domain name) this will display the spidered links to your site.

I posted all of my listings on craigslist and now they only let me post once a month. Anyone know how to get around this?
Posting on craigslist should just be one of your weapons, start your own website and promote it that way.

No doubt having a website is a good way to go. I just started working on my website for links. It's ugly and I don't really know what I'm doing. But it gets me about ten to fifteen registrations a day. I'll be happy when that number is more like 50 or 60.

I suggest you create a blog for your site and promote it. You can also try posting on free classified forums and post your ads there. If you want more traffic, create a compelling content then Digg it or Social Book Mark it.

I have had several sites and found the Word Press Blogging platform very useful. It has actually surpased my other websites in Alexa ranking and traffic in a very quick time as it makes use of several SEO plugins and keyword tagging methods.
By far, the best way to drive traffic is through adwords on google and yahoo...Even when you stop driving the traffic from those programs you will notice improved traffic flow...Best of luck with everyones SEO!!! DP

Link Baiting is a good thing. Write absolutely unique yet informative and relevant content for your website, so that other sites find your site an authority on that topic and link back to your site.
