I built a site using frames and THEN read about how bad frames can be for SEO. Do you think it is worth re-doing my site using tables?

You may just use available software to make the site.

Don't just build from scratch, it takes too much time and SEO issues.

For sure it depends on what kind of site you are dealing with.

Thanks

You definatley need to get rid of the frames, there are dozens of html editors out there.

dreamweaver which I use, html kit - good for strict html, frontpage - I started with this but not very good now, coffee cup - I havent used but I know others that have. Plus lots more.

You can also use cms like joomla, mambo, etc.

Try and avoid using frames and tables (although tables are ok for SEO). CSS and Layers is the way to go. Not only is it much faster at rendering - it also provides for more compact code. Most of your layout is done in the CSS (Stylesheet) and you can then simply write basic code to build your pages.

The best thing is, when you pages are indexed for content they will not load the CSS stylesheet - so you are cutting out the garbage that is generally ignored by the search engines. Another benefit is the reduction in bandwidth used for your visitors and se's. Basically the CSS Stylesheet is loaded once and cached - so you dont have fat source files that need to be downloaded.

If you check your website logs when a crawler comes - it only loads the page - not the images and not the stylesheet. It wants content. CSS based sites are the way to give SE's the food they like.

Try:

css websites

In google.

I agree about the CSS. It loads so clean compared to other styles. I have had Frames, Traditional coded sites, and a CSS coded site. The load time and SE friendliness of the CSS coded site is far superior. I am a Realtor and not a programer so I have not ulterior motives. Wayne

CSS does cut down the code but with my 12+ years of experience in seo tables and CSS are both fine and can achieve the same results in the same amount of time. FRAMES have to go though. No question about it.

Using frames are not advisable to SEOs, although it crawls by the robot, but it makes hard for them to crawl it.. so avoid using frames in your site, theres a lot option you can use aside using FRAMES.

Frames are a search engines nightmare... removing them is a definate must!

As for tables.... nope. Tables are old hat and a terrible way of designing a websites layout. If you're not using tabular data, it can also cause issues eg load speed, crawl ability and even seo related.

Get rid of the frames. Go with a static css layout. You'll do much better in the SERPs.

You can use frames if you want to display your mls listings though without any problem, but definitely make your content spiderable by not framing them in!

SEO aside, frames are UGLY.

Frames are just a long outdated way to be a website. It does not make sense for sites to still use them when there are so many other ways to do it at a reasonable cost or free. WP blogs make great sites and are free!

It's a waste of time if you start it over again, but much better if you get rid using frames.. Use CSS..

Yes, it is true that frames = evil. Unless you have good reason to use it, stay away. There are now other alternatives, such as php, asp or other server side driven solutions.

But I disagree that frames are ugly. You can create great looking sites with frames, especially with so-called 'inline framesets'.

the answer in one equation: frames = the worst thing you can do for search rankings

A table frame is fine. An I frame is hard for a spider to crawl. I built several sites in the past and used I-frames to set up blogs in. The blogs were wordpress blogs and they were crawled. Eventually the I frames were removed and homepage became the blog. When you build a sitemake sure to include everything that is needed for a site to rank well.

frames are not seen as part of the page because they are not and thus whatever optimization you do on it will not reflect on the page that has the frame.

primary problem with frames, unless they are built right, there are crawl ability problems.

Dreamweaver in my opinion is user friendly. As far as Coffee Cup they have come along way and most software is free.
