My husband and sold our first home a few years ago when the market was lukewarm, but we still got it sold. Now we are trying to sell off our timeshare in Maui and it's like selling the plague. I've heard that people can't even sell them on ebay for $1. What gives?

A timeshare is a fraction of the value of a home, so the demand affecting sales is much different. A timeshare is 1/52nd of an entire home. It certainly cost you less to pay for 1week a year vs. all of it, but that also reduces the resale value of your deed. The contractual obligations imposed on timeshare owners doesn’t help either. I have heard of timeshare owners unable to find buyers for over 5 years. There’s a company called timeshare relief that charge fees to take the deed off of timeshare owners. That can be the smarter move ompared with trying to sell a timeshare for years with no result and paying for it all the while.

what do you think the fuss is all about to get rid of timeshares. alot of people want out - i mean, if you bought it and you can afford it, why feel the "need" to sell it like so many people do?

there pretty good deals - i mean vacationing where ever you want and trading out spots and the like - i would never buy one in a million years because it's just a bad investment - but most people who bought them weren't/aren't investors. they're vacationers.

anyhoot - what's the fuss over dumping them?
