I began, there were 800,000
Now more than the million.
However, lots of them disappeared for lack of business.
So what could be the percentage of active agents in this million?

It is easy to become a realtor - Hard to survive.

You can become an Agent with couple of month’s hard work.

Surviving is a long and hard fought battle.

The one who don't give up and one who is hard working will survive.

Thanks

It is very hard to survive when you first start out. I been doing this 3 plus years and it took me 1 year to get my first sell. Now i sell 13 a month most months.

Wow! 13/month! I will be very very glad if I reach that number in a year. Could you share your secrete here? ( I am about to be a newbie).

By the way, the saying is that you should start your business with you SOI, but I don't think your SOI give you 13/month, must be some other way :)

I dont understand, I have months where i do 20 Deals a month. I sold 78 Dr horton homes last year in Dallas Fort Worth Texas. That was just one builder. I did well over 100 Deals last year. But I market alot different then most do. My idea is if it sound good i will try it.

I'm not a agent/realtor but I'm a mortgage professional that tries to focus on purchase business with my agent/broker partners. Statistically 80% of all new licensees turn over every 18 months in this business where national averages have agents pegged for 1 deal a year closed. Apply the 80/20 rule and you have 20% of the agents closing 80% of the business where the remaining 80% of the agents are closing - you guessed it 20% of the remaining business. My stance is that this business is wide open for establishing great relationships to do more business with other great professionals. Babyboomers take no offense, but this is a segment of the population that will be exiting the workforce within the next 10 years like the Isrealites out of Egypt. Exodus! Things may seem a little tough now, but I couldn't see it as any brighter in terms of opportunities for growth and establishment. Hang in there, employment figures for people holding jobs in this industry have declined. I know you'll make it.

The NAR should enforce stricter guidelines for becoming a REALTOR and keeping your license every year. Our industry is flooded with part timers who often lack experience, knowledge and is part of the reason our profession is listed right below that of a used car salesperson.

I'm willing to pay more to weed out a large chunk of the REALTORS that don't sell but tell the world they're a professional.

Every true professional should take a stand. The NAR is one of the most powerful lobby groups in the country and regretfully doesn't always do for the greater good. There are a lot of people in this industry that don't belong and whose activities sometimes lead to onerous laws. This in my opinion leaves the playing field wide open for you to connect with other true professionals. Join a club, network with other professionals, and get involved with your local chapters - focus on how you can get involved and make a difference. Good people are everywhere, you just have to look. Together with other good people, you can weed through the groves of schmucks in this business. It will get better, believe you me.

Now there's a battle we Realtors have been fighting for a while at. Stricter guidelines to obtain a license would be nice. I think an actual training course that pre-licensees should have to take would be the answer. The training would be actual "in-the-field" type training too, not just the math and terminology training that you learn in real estate school that you barely use today in the business.

Someone also mentioned selling 13 homes a month. This is a great achievement, for some it's still a goal though. Every local real estate market is different. For example, homes here in Las Vegas average around $350,000. In some other areas of the country, the average home price is around $200,000. I would be able to sell a hell of a lot more homes in the lower price market because you have a wider variety of prospects to deal with. In my market, first time homebuyers are having a very hard time purchasing these days. Plus, it doesn't really matter if you sell 10 homes a month at say $250,000 each or 5 homes a month at $500,000 each. We all have the opportunity to make good money in this business as long as we work hard.

Back on topic... The Las Vegas valley alone has over 16,000 licensed agents! I have a lot of competition! ;)

I liked your article. Here's a great saying from Sun Su Art of War

" Wars are won or lost before they are fought"

You've got to believe that you are the best! Watch the dvd "the Secret"

Also I once sold 11 homes in 5 hours for $5.2 million. I've also had many 12 sales months. Last year I sold $25 million

You can to. Just believe it!
