For those interested in a nice, moderately priced digital camera I would like to suggest ths Canon S1 IS. It's only a 3.2 megapixel camera, but the photos are still great quality. Here are just a few of the things that I like about it:
1. You can use a variety of automatic settings, or you can go totally manually. It has many SLR features without the SLR price tag. You can find this camera for $350-$450.
2. Panoramic pictures are a breeze. The camera has a pano mode where you first choose if you are shooting left to right, right to left, top to bottom. or bottom to top. After you take the first picture, the viewfinder (or LCD screen) with show about 30% of the first picture so that you can easily line up the second picture. How good is this feature? I took great outdoor panoramic pictures (4-6 stitched photos) without a tripod!
For indoor home photos, I do suggest a tripod and a wide angle lens.
Oh yeah, the software that comes with the camera will allow you to save your panoramic photo as a Quicktime movie. Now you can create your own 360-degree virtual home tours!
I have a home photo shoot coming up this weekend. When I have the photos and tours set up on the web site I will post the URL here.
