I remember I was walking to the cafeteria and asked the smartest computer guy I knew what search engine he used. He said "Google man" i went home tried it out, then proceeded to tell everyone I know for the next few year to use Google. That was '99, or '00. Wish I would have bought that stock, wish I would have gotten a job at Google when I applied after graduation in '01. Hindsight is depressing at times.

Google is not only well known for the search engine service they provide, they also make a whole lot of money from their advertising programs. They are said to be a company which has devised ways to earn money out of thin air. It gave Microsoft such an inferiorty complex that the frustrated Microsoft had to decide to buy Yahoo to break even things :p

SEO's may bash Google for nipping at their heels and criticise Google's business model, but who else out there went from 0 to billions in a decade?

Since the inception of it google has made so many changes to its searching algorithm and providing such an accurate result that the world has considered this as the best search engines ever made. Google is a challange for the SEO, passion for the Programmers, and love for the searchers.

Pretty quick improvement for a company... should we say quickest one in the world? I am wondering where they will be in next 5-10 years.,..

I hope they will not be in a position I am tinking...becoming a monopoly, and the biggest layer in some industries, and killing other businesses...

If I'm not mistaken, Yahoo was the no. 1 Search Engine and Directory that time, but Google got so popular and now its the no. 1 SE today. I think it'll stay on top for a long time coz its improving as time comes.

Who knows? Before, there is no Google, Yahoo is the #1 SE, Right?. But when Big G comes into the scene, Y was replaced by G. No one can tell what's gonna happen, change is the only permanent thing in the world.
