Blog... Forums seem to be a lot harder to promote unless you already are very well known somewhere else and have a decent following. Blogs on the other hand seem to promote themselves.

blogging seems easier for most users than forums. Also, as Derek said, blogs do promote themselves.

Blogs are better than forums and message boards because maximum forums have dynamic url. Dynamic url does not get indexed soon by any search engine. But blog has a static url and it get indexed very soon than forums and message board.

Interesting responses, I hadn't thought about the static url issue.
It seems like message boards offer a more interactive use with the multiple users. Blogs seem like a one way transmission of information with responses? Maybe I'm missing something with the set up?

Blogs are better because you have greater control over what is posted. For example, when we set up blogs for clients we make sure that no comments are allowed to post until the agent approves that message. This not only helps prevent spam, but also ensures that one of their competitors or anyone else posts nasty feedback on their site.
When you host a forum, someone can post spam or unflattering comments and they will remain visible to all until you delete that post. Do you want to take a chance that a potential clients reads offensive spam or posts?

Thanks for the great responses.
Some forums controls allow the webmaster to set pre-approval to prior to post. For example, website tool box is an example of this type of forum.
One thing seems clear...Blogs are the current hot trend.

Blogs seem to be easier to promote. Same goes with articles related to a field.

I agree, blogs are easier to promote, help more with SEO, and offer more for potential clients than a forum can. You can really set yourself as a real estate expert in a blog and provide solid, useful information for home buyers or sellers.
