I'm looking for ideas of what car to buy getting started in the business.

We actually talked about this in real estate school. Some homeowners have actually gotten rid of agents and some have even signed them up due to how they dress and what type of car they have.
My old pre-licensure class instuctor told us when she was first getting into real estate, she had a run down car and was just barely getting along. The homeowners looked at her and told her after seeing what she drove that if she couldn't afford a nice car then she must really needed their business so she got the listing.
My best advice would be to look at your area and yoru market. If it is a rich upper class neighborhood, then more than likely if you show up in a beat up truck, you will not get the listing however, if it a rural town, they could see you as being good old country folks just like them and not some snobby rich agent driving around in the country in his BMW who could care less about their needs!

I'm picking up a 2005 Mercedes C230 this weekend. I drive about 3k miles a month. In my opinion this car provides a good look along with awesome fuel mileage 30+

I always chose a nice new larger car that said that I was sucessful but not over the top. I think the clients are attracted to someone they feel like they can relate with. If you are selling higher or midde grade property, you better have a higher end car. I remeber an agent that had an older pick-up (that's right a pick-up). A milliion dollar plus buyer fell into his lap, went out with him once and that was the end. I keep thinking that he sure paid a lot for that old pick-up.

One thing to look at when getting the car. What type of Real Estate are you selling. If all your listings are in the city, then any car that can easily fit 4 will work. If you are selling in the country, you will need ground clearance.

Hey HomeSurfer, In Atlanta it is now 2.30 a gallon, and the price is decreasing everyday! It is about time.

This is interesting that I ran across this thread because my mother and I just went and looked at a house this morning with an agent who was driving a BMW. I mentioned to my mother that it is must very important to have a car that would give people a good impression. The way I see it is, you're going to be judged on the way you present yourself.
Would you want to sell your home with a sloppy sales person in a beat up old car? Probably not. I wouldn't. Aside from their ability to sell, it doesn't say to much about this professional attitude either.

Depends on who I am dealing with....
Family home client, no question, the 5 series Bimmer. Sedans are the way to go.
If it is a single person, I'll use G-series Benz if my husband is not using it.
