Now I have to learn something new again? I've known about blogs since they first became popular but I really don't understand their usage for real estate sites. Seems like a lot of maintenance. Can you offer a thread with more explanation on the basics and explanation of a real estate blog?
I don't know anything about them either but these nice dudes around here will help us! We got to stay one step ahead of the competition!

The benefits of Real Estate Blogs are many.
If the Blog is hosted on your server, it gives more content.
Each post is ONE PAGE.
The Blog can contain your main sites most popular page links giving you additional anchor text links.
Blogs are loved by SEs and get indexed often.
Best of all, it is a great way to give your visitor “Briefs” on market conditions, tips, company news or what ever in just minutes.
And those are only a few. ;)

So do you have to post something daily? Isn't it somewhat similar to a forum where if there's not enough postings it looks unprofessional? Is it open to others to post on? I looked at the example given but couldn't figure out the answers with that one example.
My little website is my first learning curve of a site & I know they don't provide a blog. So where would I get the set up?

Yes Judy, if you have time it is a good practice to post to it everyday. I should practice what I preach but I have not had a lot of time lately so therefore I havent posted to my real estate blog. You can also use your blog to communicate with your clients or prospects. We will post some of the best uses for a blog for those that dont know sometime this week.
VegasMack
02-19-2005, 09:19 PM
I like www.blogger.com . It is easy to set up, and free.
Judy you have the option of putting your Blog on their server, but Google will discount the links since they own www.blogger.com and feel it would create an unfair advantage.
That filter is not in place to my knowledge if you ftp the Blog to your server. That is done right in your Blogger.com control panel. No ftp application is needed.
So I guess the place to start is: do you have an ftp account?
If so you will need to create a directory for your Blog, and know the EXACT path to that directory.
Hope that helps.

What about blogs hosted in other sites instead of blogger.com and our own site? Does anyone know whether it gets indexed? I'm still confused about this whole blog thing.
Max
for example, is it better to have a blog through blogger.com because google owns the system or no? who knows?

I have a temporary Hilton Head real estate blog (http://hiltonheadrealestate.blog-city.com/) set up on Blog City, but eventually will create a domain and host my own real estate blog.
One of the things that I really like about Lunarpages web hosting (http://www.lunarpages.com) is that they have a bunch of PHP based applications that you can click to install on your site including various blog formats, newsletters, content management, and other applications.
If you need more than one SQL database, they do charge you an extra $10, but that's not much. So far their servers have been rock solid, and tech support has been great when I needed it.
The only problem that I have had with them is occasionally my raw stat logs don't post. I also don't care for logs in TAR format. I prefer the logs in a simple text format so I can easily scan and search them for quick info.
BTW, I don't get any kickbacks from Lunarpages like I do with other hosts that I use - but I highly recommend them just the same.

Well, I no longer work as a real estate agent--except for myself. :) However, I try to keep up with my license and so on. I'm currently semi-retired and teaching real estate classes at a local community college.
Keeping myself sharp, I write at my blog, which can you get to through my signature or profile.

I have just recently started blogging. I do love the ability to add additional relevant content to my site relatively easy. Also, the more you write, the more pages you have indexed in Google etc, that is making the assumption that the sites architecture is such to allow for it!!

I am not a real estate agent, but a marketing specialist. I have, over the past few years, had many blogs. I have found through experience that wordpress is the most helpful in terms of getting indexed by search engines, raising pagerank and drawing attention in general.
The longer I've worked with wordpress, the more I've come to understand exactly how it works and what I should do to help achieve indexing and ranking goals. One thing that I can say is very important is the tagging feature associated with each post. Since tags work just like keywords, I take the time to do just as much research as I would when choosing keywords for a client's website.
I have come across many who also haven't discovered the blog stats and their usefulness. Wordpress actually offers stats that are just as in-depth as results from Google analytics. In particular, wordpress shows which search terms from search engines referred traffic to your blog, and how many times. I always take this into account when choosing my keywords and writing my articles.
One last thing I've come to do is join up with other sites like Activerain and local directories that allow blog posts. I normally input a little of each post with a link to the specific article to encourage full reading at my blog, not an outside source. The idea is to give just enough of the post to attract interest, then direct readers to your blog to read the entire post. This method has worked quite well for my in the past.
There are several other methods I use with wordpress to ensure higher rankings and more indexing, which relate to optimization (it does you good to know some, and having a basic understanding of HTML doesn't hurt either).
Blogger can be effective when you are interested in using external widgets, adding video etc. However, I have not experienced the same traffic & indexing results as I have with wordpress. If anyone has any specific questions related to using wordpress effectively, I'd be more than happy to answer them!

If they are of high quality and benefit, than absolutely. All comments are moderated, so it might take a few hours before they are approved.

That would be correct :D But that doesn't mean all comments will be approved. Not looking for comments like "great post" or "I was thinking the same thing". If the comment has no value to the blog post, it will not be approved!

Hello
This is my BLOG: had to delete your blog url it wont let me post links yet.
Took a look at your blog, here's 2 suggestions.
Tell your website designer to make this change.
I clicked on your activity in Milford, CT post.
at the top of the page in the sites url it said:
corettihomesdotcom/my-blog.asp
that should read something like this:
corettihomesdotcom/activity-in-milford-ct.asp
another link led me to (same post)
joeinct.featuredblogdotcom/?cat=11
thats the first thing, you need to have your blog post titles incorporated into your address bar as part of your site url.
Secondly, the title of your post needs to be search engine friendly.
Nobody knows you have a blog but you! So, you have to help people find it. You help them by giving your post a title that someone may search for in google.
for example, Milford real estate sales July - Current Milford Real Estate Prices.
I just did a google search for "milford real estate prices" you have 358,000 search results. That is not a large number for you to get on the first page of google for that title.
If someone knows how to do a proper google search and put that in quotes, "milford real estate prices", then there are only 8 search results. That means your automatically on the front page.
Hope this helps you and others. I have a few tips on my blog at aboutrealestatemarketingdotcom that anyone can check out.
If you or anyone else has any questions, just ask.
thanks
