I had quite a strong rant in mind when I sat down here, but then I saw the "I'm Speechless" post by HHI Golf Guy and I have to admit it melted me.

I'm still going to say what I was going to say, though. :)

First, let me preface this post by saying that I have read advice here by Chief Tutor, HHI Golf Guy, Frobn and others. I respect these individuals highly and I believe they truly know what they're talking about. If you're new on this forum, I strongly recommend the advice that they offer. (You're lucky to be reading it! :) :) )

What I'm so frustrated with is all the propoganda and mixed messages out there in the world by people peddling services that are obviously rather... off, in some way or another.

It kills me in the line of my day job to listen to people who seem like they're slanting the truth to fit their own agenda or they're just spouting something they read somewhere on the Internet.

There is so much convoluted information available on the Internet. Part of my job for awhile now has been researching and creating community links pages for clients. I've learned something from the researching part of this job -- just because a website is on the first page of results for a particular query doesn't mean it's a valid resource.

Not long ago I wanted to look up doorway pages because they tell you not to use them on the Google webmaster guidelines and I didn't know what they were. I found pages in the top search results that offered advice as to why it is important to use them!

I keep hearing these ideas that hit me the wrong way.

I want to do it right!

Forgive my rambling. Thank you to everyone on this forum who takes the time to share their knowledge.

P.S. Okay, I think I forgot the punchline to this post. Which is: I've been spoiled by reading the information presented on the pages of this forum.

In my day-to-day job, I run into people spouting information as though it was gospel and it makes me shudder. I hate it when people peddle bad services just because it can be lucrative.

For the most part I think there are companies out there trying to jump on the SEO bandwagon to make a quick buck without having the knowledge to really improve rankings. Most of them are trying to sell PPC campaigns to people who desperately want an online presence and don't know any better. We get several calls per week from companies trying to sell us PPC and SEO services without knowing anything about our company or our present rankings. It has become really annoying.

I have firsthand experience working with Chief Tutor.....his advice and consult team are top notch and a great resource for anyone with a website....so soak up the knowledge in this forum like a sponge!

Nothing personal, but copy writers should focus on copy written that is intended to inform the web site's target audience better than any other site.

The intent of search engines is to locate the best content for the web visitor. Hopefully, the search engine likes the copy writer's effort. That's the copy writers responsibility to SEO. To inform in a readable way.

SEO changes. That's why there are "updates" at Google and "handjob" and penalties and sites getting banned.

Let the site owner worry about SEO. Just inform.

I understand where you are coming from. However, there are times when I look at a site and it is missing some basic stuff in the code. Or there is not much content, etc.

I am sure others do the same. Not everyone is trying to sell something. Some people are actually trying to be helpful.

Also, there are different opinions as to what is good for SEO...if there were absoluts then it would be much easier to accomplish.
