VegasMack has been shopping around for a good managed dedicated server host. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks Sharon

Sorry a bit late - but Windows or Unix?

I was looking for a Linux Server, but I have already signed up with Rack Space.

Thanks anyway Corey Bryant.

Rack Space is a good company but one of the more expensive dedicated server companies. No matter which company you use, you will always have some types of problems. This is the price we pay for advancement.

But I do not believe Rack Space will go down for several days like another Hosting company I have dealt with.

You are correct..lol and very good point, but there is defective equipment even in rack space. I just believe it was dumb luck..only time will tell.

Rack Space has a one hour hardware replacement guarantee.

That is a great agreement, however I am not forsure but I dont believe you can get different C-Blocks from them but I am not positive.

Mack how is Rack space performing now that you ahve been there for over a month?

So far I love it.

I have NEVER had a host that provides the support they do.

While they are pricey, the 100% uptime, support and port monitoring makes it a great buy IMHO.

With rankings getting harder to achieve, I simply could not afford to gamble that my client's sites would be up during an update any longer.

Rackspace is nice but way too expensive.

I have been through several hosting companies.

Finally I started calling the tech support lines of my candidate providers at 1 AM Sunday morning. The provider with the most Intelligent staff was Liquidweb.com.

They offer great linux servers for half the price of rackspace and the Liquidweb server comes complete with CPanel which is way better than Rackspace's Plesk

Think about the economics of the hosting business. One or two phone calls a month and the provider has lost his profit. Only the best providers survive in this climate.

The rest have severe growing pains. They price themselves too cheaply and have to overwork their tech slaves who get burnt out and leave. At that point it becomes clear the techie never documented their work and the whole place blows up.

Garths, you are exactly right. When you pay $9 a month for hosting don't expect support unless you go with a great company like hostgator.

It pays to get a managed dedicated server though. Once set up it should run for a long time without any hassles and if it's managed your company will keep it updated for you with little to zero downtime.

Dedicated servers definitely pay if you need your site up.

Alphashare is the best for dedicated hosting, I have been with them for 3 years now and the support is second to none.

I have been with a couple of companies that were recommended to me, but turned out to be complete horror stories! I pay 500 euros per year which is roughly 700 dollars, they are a small company with no plans to go big. As soon as these hosts get too big communication breaks down.

No phone calls, submit a ticket!

If I have a problem it is sorted within 10 - 20 minutes, not that I have had any - but if I need something put on the server that I know nothing about.

Definitely worth the money.

I would also recommend Liquid Web as their support and uptime are excellent. You can pick up a dedicated server for around $150 a month or a VPS for around $60. They are also located in Michigan so a plus if you are marketing in this area.
