Although I get excellent search results for my website http://www.maureenmegowan.com for the key word searches "Palos Verdes Estates homes for sale" or "Rancho Palos Verdes Homes for sale" (first page rankings), I do not show up anywhere on a google search for "Palos Verdes homes for sale". It just doesn't make any sense. Can anybody enlighten me?
Also, Why do some of the Google search engine results show my DMOZ title, while others show my meta tag description of the page?

Look at the allinanchor:Palos Verdes homes for sale on Google:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2005-03,GGLD:en&q=allinanchor%3APalos+Verdes+homes+for+sale
I don't see your site in the top 30, let alone the top 5. Build more relevant links with your targetd anchor phrase.
There only a miniscule amount (in SEO terms) of competing pages (302k). You can probably crack the top 3 with less than a dozen well placed links. If the amount of competing pages were a few million or more, then you would need to do more on-page SEO on your own site.

The point of my post, is that I rank very high for very similar key word searches, such as "Palos verde Estates homes for sale", and "Rancho Palos Verdes homes for sale" that have almost the same words as "Palos Verdes homes for sale", except for one. It doesn't make any sense why I would rank on the first page of results for the first two, and not for the last one.

Algorithm's are pure math. Search engines rank data based upon 1's and 0's - not ABC's.
While in a literary sense the phrases "Palos verde Estates homes for sale" and "Rancho Palos Verdes homes for sale" may be similar, in mathematical terms they are quite different.
For example, although a reader knows that the words "home" and "house" can be interchanged in most sentences, to a search engine they are completely unrelated.
Search engine = computer = machine = literal
