Are booths at city events a good place to get leads? A fellow agent and myself are going to be giving away an I-Pod at an upcoming event and I just wanted to ask if anyone here has done anything like this and if it was worth investing in booth space etc.?

Considering that booth space is relatively inexpensive for the amount of exposure I would say absolutely. It gives you the opportunity to have face time with potential clients in a more casual atmosphere. I have done this for my insurance business and it has payed off well even though our products sell for much, much cheaper than houses. Making a good impression at city event could very well result in a client(s) for life or at least some solid leads. Plus, if you close even one deal it pays back your investment exponentially.

could be a great place to get listings... people always love to hear about the stats in their area... know the facts and show them how much you know.

If you do it let us know how it goes. My town has 2 festivals a year and I might want to give it a try too!

You have to make it interactive with those walking around. If you don't people will walk past you and never take a look. Some ideas for this would be "guess the price of this home" and the closest person wins the iPOD, or "stump the expert"...set yourself up as the expert and have people ask any real estate question they want and if you can't answer it correctly they get some price, or have a general real estate survey to test people real estate knowledge (people love to think they are smart)...also let them know you will send them the correct answers to any they miss by e-mail and now you have an e-mail list for prospecting.
There are so many ways to make it an interactive both, the key is to be different than the other boths out there so they will stop by. Also if you can set up your both so people walk into it, not a table at the front. This will also make your space stand out and people will look closer. The only drawback is sometimes you have to have 2 spaces for this to work.
Best of luck and make sure to let us know how it goes.

Another thing to consider is having items with your logo or company information to give away at the booth. People absolutely love getting free stuff. Our company has had some good responses from giving away car air fresheners (that hang from the rear view window), chap stick and helium balloons. All of the items were imprinted with our logo and are relatively cheap to produce. The balloons give some extra exposure and more branding opportunities at the event and the chap stick and air fresheners last a while....so any of those three could work for you.
